We stumbled upon this restaurant while enjoying the mini market set up just outside. Our waiter was obviously a very experienced host who spoke fluent Portuguese as well as decent English along with his native Spanish. He warmly welcomed us and guided our choices. We enjoyed ceviche which was amazing followed by the charcuterie that was as wide as the table. The recommended wine was excellent. The one negative was the bartender. He took his meal before his shift outside, on the patio with us. While eating, he watched what sounded like hard rock videos just behind my wife such that she had to raise her voice to be heard. He was oblivious to the customers around him and spent some time enjoying the videos causing us to leave earlier than we planned. It’s unfortunate given that everything else was perfect.

This is the perfect spot for lunch in Santiago - with outdoor (but still undercover) tables allowing you to watch the buskers and passing parade in Santiago's coolest street, while you enjoy a really good meal. And Mulato delivers original, well presented and really tasty food at a decent price. We started with the scallops and shrimps with black beans as a starter, which was one of the best dishes we had in 3 weeks in South America (and appeared to be the choice of just about every table around us). For mains we had the fish of the day and again, perfectly cooked and superbly presented. No problems coping with our complete lack of Spanish, or our request for gluten-free meals, and there wass a great choice of drinks.

Woke up late and found this place right around the corner from where we were staying and it was recommended to us for breakfast. And their breakfast is well worth it, from the taste, the presentation and the cost this place is well definitely worth going to for breakfast. Plus for those struggling to speak Spanish the staff here can speak great English and French. Plus the atmosphere here is relaxing and allows you to see the see the street vendors as well as locals go about their every day business.

My husband and I were there for lunch. We read the menu online and saw the prices and couldn’t wait to eat there. Neither of our choices were on their new menu and the prices were much much higher. I had the pear, blue cheese salad-it was quite expensive, but it was delicious. My husband ordered the merzula curry- I guess there was a misunderstanding because he got fish and chips. (The curry came with quinoa and he subbed the potatoes) I have no idea if it was curried quinoa? Anyway, The three stars is because their Website is not up to date and we should have just left. Our lunch cost $50USD ( we had 1 pisco sour, 1 glass of wine, fish and chips and a salad with no meat) The waitstaff was excellent… but I really wanted the seafood salad which was website listed at the same price as my fish- less salad!! On to...
