We recently dined at Beefbar on Ice House Street in Central District and had a rewarding meal. This is a Michelin stared steakhouse and a rare place that seems to 'really get it right' when it comes to serving high quality steak here in Hong Kong. Opening hours are 12-2.30pm (lunch) and 5-10pm (dinner) each day. Dining environs are classy and modern. Service is knowledgeable, capable and timely - what you expect of Michelin restaurants. Menu focuses on high grade and quality sourced beef as well as a few other meats and sides. They also offer a nice list of pre-dinner cocktails and a good selection of wines. For our meal we started with the Milk Fed Veal Tartare and Black Angus Carpaccio both of which are quality orders. We liked the tartare but preferred the carpaccio which was beautiful and very flavourful. Both were worth reordering. Most impressive on the evening, not surprisingly was the (U.S.A.) Black Angus Fillet, which was perfectly grilled at medium rare - just the right amount of char on the outside with beautiful red-pink middle. Importantly, the fillet tasted excellent with lovely sweetness and natural beef juice. This was as good a fillet cut as we have had in Hong Kong in a long time. We also very much enjoyed the mash potato side. Topped with baked comte, the buttery, smooth and silky mash was just great, perfect complement to the Black Angus fillet. Similarly, the Irish Soufflé was a nice dessert selection, finishing off a very good steak meal at Beefbar. Based on our recent meal, its hard to argue against booking a table at Beefbar if you are want an excellent steak dinner here in Hong Kong.

Have no idea how this place earned its Michelin star with such bad service. Ate here on a deal with Restaurant Week. From the moment I stepped in, I felt unwelcomed. Perhaps my partner arrived there first, but there was no one who greeted me and guided me to the table at all. Despite placing a note and communicating on WhatsApp before that it was my actual birthday, there was no acknowledgment except the extra chocolate plaque they put on the dessert at the end. I don’t need you to sing or anything, but the overall attitude was just to leave the dessert on the table, help you take a photo and leave. The food was alright, but the service and the overall atmosphere of the restaurant is just off. Not to mention the person in charge who was wearing glasses physically intimidated us on a fault that was completely theirs and continuously gaslighting us on something that was not communicated to us at any point except when we were paying. It’s not like we weren’t going to pay for our meal, but you don’t have to be confrontational and blame us for not knowing something. I felt extremely disappointed about this dinner. Please don’t waste your money here or spend a special occasion here unless you want your day completely ruined. It’s simply not worth it for beef that’s good but there’s good places for beef anywhere else in this town. *Edit: turns out “person in charge” is their sommelier, Raymond Yip. Goes to show how poor management is at Beefbar that they have the sommelier take care of payment matters.

This place is absolutely one of the best steakhouse in town. I have been here twice within the month, and tried their weekend lunch and dinner respectively. I have to say I enjoyed both meals a lot and would love to come back once again. They offered wide range of food, apart from beef, you can also find pasta and a variety of seafood. Staffs were friendly, able to offer exceptional and anticipatory service. When you have questions on the menu, they can offer you excellent suggestions, based on your preference and appetite. The beef tartare was seasoned well without covering the tenderness and aroma of the beef. The sea urchin pasta was exceptional, not to mention the beef cooked in perfect medium rare. The lunch was also exceptional. The wide variety of choices in first and second course did make me having difficulty in choosing the right dishes, as there were all tempting. My personal suggestions would be the prawn and mini burger. The server is also able to spot my wife and I was not too keen on the sauce, in the next plate, they delicately served them on the side which amazed both of us how dedicated their service could be. And if you had a chance, do try their mojito, beautifully mixed and definitely a good drink to ease the heat!

My wife took me here for lunch on my birthday. Beef bar has a number of locations around the world. This branch has been awarded a Michelin Star which is quite an accomplishment for how short of a time it has been open. My rating is based on: Food: 4 stars Atmosphere: 4.5 stars Service: 4 stars The interior of the restaurant is immaculate and really radiates a fine dining vibe. Service was good as to be expected from a place of this caliber and price level. I ordered the A5 Wagyu steak, beef tartare, and Mac and cheese. Steak was prepared at a nice medium rare and the meat was supper fatty and tender. This was definitely the best part of the meal. We also had the tartar which is a dish they are known for. It wasn’t my favorite but I’m not a beef tartar fan. The Mac and cheese was really rich, creamy and cheesy with a nice char on top for crunch. I enjoyed this dish quite a bit. Beef bar is one of the better steak houses that I have tried in Hong Kong and would recommend it for a date night or special occasion.

Came here after seeing the 1 Michelin star and the ratings given by other customers. The food definitely did not disappoint. The meat dishes were the stars: Chef’s special Kobe Jamon, the beef mini-burgers and the steak. This restaurant is definitely worth a try if you enjoy beef - the Maitre D’ explained the steak preparation process to us, which is why the steak takes time to come, and the process is quite unique an interesting and leads to a steak that is tender and juicy on the inside and charred on the outside. The service was good too. We definitely will return to sample other dishes on the menu. As for areas that require improvement - the music could definitely be changed to something that matches the ambience. The current playlist doesn’t lend itself to the atmosphere. Also, the side dishes (we tried the mushrooms and fries) could be elevated as the quality and flavour, while good, are standard and not unique enough to match what is expected from a Michelin starred restaurant.

Blown away by the quality of every single dish, from appetizer to dessert (ordered the lunch sets named Sydney and Tokyo). Hands down the best steak I've had in Hong Kong so far. Apart from the premium meat quality, what impressed me the most is the way the steak is prepared - the marination / seasoning was is right on point: being complex but not too salty, subtle yet still distinctive without overwhelming the original flavours of the beef. The different cuts (Japanese vs Australian) each got their own unique sauce and seasoning that complement and bring out the original flavours of the cut. The side dish of mashed potato was surprisingly good (esp since I am not normally a fan of mash), and the tiramisu (with a creative twist) maybe one of the best fusion-tiramisu I've ever had. Price is very reasonable (especially for lunch) given the quality, the comfortable seating (which allows you to enjoy a great deal of privacy), and the no-fuss yet elegant decor. Bravo, beefbar.
