Performance institution focused only on the elite. It is way too discriminating. If you want to study there and become outstanding, and you are willing to work hard but you are not yet outstanding - they will reject you. Simply telling you in your face without tact that you are too old! 21 is just too old!! They select those that are already outstanding, those kids that study with the teachers there since they were babies. And it has a very exclusive attitude. If you are an alumni, you are included. If you are not, you hardly get a fair chance. Just too much politics! I like the building and the atmosphere as it attempts to exude an image of a professional and high end music institution. But the department head (of music) and teachers are of mostly of small and closed minds. Once you are identified as an “outsider” they make sure that you feel this way - even when you become a team member of the staff. Read moreWe attend performances at the Lyric theatre at the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts (HKAPA) in Wan Chai probably 2-3 times a year on average depending on the HK Arts Festival line up and other performances scheduled throughout the year.
It is a decent theatre with good enough acoustics. There are three levels of seating and most seats are comfortable enough for shows. Toilet facilities are on the ground floor not far from the ticketing counter.

Read moreI went for three classical music concerts, and all of them are for free. They're all conducted by world-class conductor and they also gave world-class performance. One of them is an orchestra performed by students and I was really impressed.
Other that musical performance, The Academy also hosts other performance, such as plays. I also notice there's a library on the first floor, but you need to be a member to enter.
