Prompt/courteous service, and great value but quality of the food is really very average at best. This is pretty much the only place on Hong Kong Island to have Indian vegetarian food (most of the Indian vegetarian restaurants are on the Kowloon side). The location itself is excellent since it is very close to Admiralty Station and most hotels on Hong Kong island. Locating the place is however very confusing (as are many things in Hong Kong) since the entrance is located on Jaffe Road rather than Luard. The best way to find the place is to indicate that it is right across the street from Joe Bananas (a seemingly popular place in Hong Kong) and right next to a 7-Eleven.
About the only thing going for the food is that the menu is entirely vegetarian and has a great variety in terms of options. They were also very nice about making some of the food without garlic, which is certainly a bonus point since some of the group dislikes the taste of garlic. I ordered the South Indian Platter (Dosa, uttapam, idli, 2 chutneys, and sambhar). and was thoroughly disappointed by tall of the items, which definitely didn't feel fresh by any stretch of the imagination. My mom ordered the Plain Uttapam, which was thick, and little doughy (the same could be said about the one offered in the South Indian Platter). The rest of the group ordered some other things off the menu like Poori Bhaaji and Idli, but it was pretty much nothing to write home about according to them.
Considering that I personally only tried the South Indian portion of the menu, I may give this place a second shot to try the rest of it. But I would not go out of my way to eat here since there are definitely other options for Indian food in Hong Kong, especially on the...

I recently dined at this wonderful food establishment and was thoroughly impressed from start to finish. The menu caters to everyone, offering a wide range of vegetarian, vegan, and Jain options, which is a huge plus for those with dietary preferences or restrictions.
The cleanliness of the place stood out immediately, and the service was truly excellent—friendly, attentive, and prompt. The atmosphere was inviting and vibrant, making it a perfect spot for both families and friends.
What really sets this place apart is the incredible variety of dishes from across India. From North Indian classics to flavorful South Indian specialties, there’s something for everyone. The starters were delicious, but the highlight for me was the masala dosa—crispy, flavorful, and perfectly spiced.
The showstopper, however, was their signature Family Dosa. This impressive dish is a four-foot-long, paper-thin, crispy pancake, served with an array of fillings like potato masala, paneer masala, mushroom masala, and vegetable masala. It comes with a variety of chutneys and sambar, and it’s truly a feast for both the eyes and the palate. Sharing this unique dish was a memorable experience!
We also tried the dal makhani, which was rich, creamy, and absolutely delicious. Every bite was a delight, and you could really taste the care and authenticity in each dish.
Overall, I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a fantastic Indian dining experience. Whether you’re a vegetarian, vegan, or just a lover of good food, you won’t be...
Read moreWoodlands is one of the original Indian vegetarian restaurants in Hong Kong. They opened their original branch in TST East in 1981 and have been a popular fixture there since. Recently, they opened up this new branch on Luard Road in Wanchai, taking over the premise formerly used by Khana Khazana. Opening hours are 11.30am to 3pm (lunch) and 6pm to 11pm (dinner) and have a considerably larger seating area then what you find at this place in TST East.
Had lunch for the first time at the new Woodlands recently and happy to report that they offer the same menu and seem to be doing a nice job ensuring the food quality is up to the standards as what you find at their original place. On the occasion I had their veg samosa and chili paneer, both very tasty as was the Madras style coffee. All worth ordering again.
I very much enjoy the thali sets at the main Woodlands. These are good portion size, plenty of curry bowls and bread to feed a couple of people each. Other regular orders that I find really good include the vada pav (starter), Gobi Manchurian (signature) and various curries, rice and naan - all of which are good veg only dishes.
In the end, Wanchai has ok Indian restaurants but not much that stands out. Very good to see Woodlands opening up on the island side, filling the void left when Khana Khazana closed down a couple years ago. Really hope they live up to the expectations we have of their main restaurant. If so, they should do fine at...
