Yin Yang Taiwanese hotpot!
It has been a while since we have had hotpot and today we've decided to try out this Taiwanese hotpot place in causewaybay. We've heard good things about it so we thought we would find out for ourselves.
It was surprisingly not busy when we got there, which was a lunch time for a Saturday. Maybe people are still conscious about the possible spread 'impact' for covid from hotpot. You can see some photos of some famous celebrities as well at the entrance. The seating arrangement was very spacious and added comfort with not many people around.
We ordered a "Yin Yang" hotpot with sichuan spicy and picked vegetable pork soup, since we both wanted a different style pot. We also ordered a plate of sliced pork, cuttlefish mince, crab stick and the Taiwanese sausage hot food. For drinks we ordered the iced white peach oolong tea to help with spice and heat from the hotpot.
There is a seasoning station where you can make your own seasoning with it ingredients like spring onions, fried garlic, chopped chilies and soy dauce. The hotpot was huge with plenty of ingredients and spices in both soup base, giving a much stronger aroma for the Sichuan spicy base. The Sichuan soup base was really tasty and not too spicy for my taste, so would be an excellent choice for those who like the Sichuan style dish. The picked vegetable pork soup was nice too with some freshness and some transparent flat noodles in it. The sliced pork was excellent, with more fat distribution but it was sliced perfectly for hotpot. The cuttlefish mince was also fresh and tender! The crabstick was standard but just have to take care of not overcooking it as it will just split and gone about. The Taiwanese sausage was a bit too oily when they cooked it in our opinion but the taste was quite nice with a bit of saltiness. The iced white peach oolong tea has a very slight peach flavour in it which is a perfect match for the flavour intensed hotpot.
Overall it was a really good place for hotpot, both for the environment and the food that it provides. Would highly recommend this...
Read moreThe only thing I am against this Taiwanese hotpot restaurant is for its high prices. Think about it, for $238, we got about a dozen thinny sliced chuck beef (1mm thick). So why 4 stars instead of 2 or 3? It's quality was overwhelming, I have to say. The pot combo had one of the tenderest chickens I've ever had. The fish maw was relatively big and it went well with the sauce mix offered. The broth tasted delicious with a fresh opened coconut milk mixed in it. I don't usually fancy for Chinese soup, but I did treat myself well with a few bowls of the soup. Good thing we ordered cuttlefish balls at the end. They did surprised me as they weren't ordinary ones you find in supermarket. They were so chewy and firm in texture that I thought I was biting a big, live cuttlefish! The best cuttlefish ball I have so...
Read moreA late late lunch reserved at my first time this hotpot place, Taiwanese. 3 in the afternoon we had the full restaurant for ourselves, clean, quiet and served right. For the soup pot we ordered “Beauty Pot” a popular Chinese herb hot pot, nice. It’s a late lunch mix with happy hour, so Chardonnay from southern Frence was ordered, along with super thin dry bean curb sheet, tenderloin beef & mushroom basket. I have to say we had a savory 😋 afternoon hotpot with great services and attention from the shop, oh, for the hh part, 2 bottles finished without noticing, that’s...
