<Earl Grey & Chocolate Pancake> I don’t know why I haven’t tried Mammy Pancake before. One of the simple reasons might be that there is always a long queue outside the shop. I finally got to try it after a friend’s recommendation, and of course, I visited at non-peak hours so that I didn’t have to wait for a long time to get this Earl Grey & Chocolate Pancake. The pancake was served fresh hot. Of course, they made it after you place your order. When I took it, I could already smell the decent earl grey tea flavor. I can’t wait to eat it so I quickly took a photo of it. I’m not sure how you usually eat this kind of egglette pancake. I usually tear them out one by one. The connecting part was very crispy. The egglettes had crunchy surface, wrapping fluffy earl grey & chocolate pancake-y thing inside. So so delicious! I couldn’t stop eating until I finished it all. Now I know why there is always a long queue outside the shop!

We were walking around Sheung Wan and got there by chance, so decided to order one egg puff and one waffle as afternoon snacks. Since they make the things only after you placed the order, so it would take some time (around 5-10 mins). But these were surprisingly good. The shell of the pancake was crispy, but it is still soft inside, the size is also big enough for sharing. For the waffle, it was also soft with fresh filling. One other good thing is that they were not too sweet, which is also a pro to me. Maybe I would give it a try again with different menu items when I have a chance to stop by again.

We did our own walking tour of Hong Kong food finds near Wellington Street, and we found this bubble pancake near our hotel at Homy Central. The pancake is big enough for sharing. We ordered the original-flavoured pancake (HKD20) and added two scoops of ice cream (HKD10 per scoop). We enjoyed this as a shared dessert, especially the chocolate ice cream with chocolate bits. The Google Maps Pin for this shop is not accurate, but it's close to the pin. I wasn't able to edit it anymore as I became engrossed too much with my pancake. I hope the pictures of nearby stores can help you find it.

Instagram has made it that Mammy Pancake and other egg waffle stores now offer toppings and ice-creams and such, but honestly, there's no need to any of that. The waffles are delicious plain and such a good snack to eat while walking.

In my childhood, I used to buy egg waffles from street carts and they were super cheap, but with increased health regulations I'm seeing a lot less 'aunt and uncle' food carts on the side of the street and more established shop fronts.

My plain waffle was $HKD 20, I'm not sure if the prices vary according to where/which shop you purchase at. You can pay with an Octopus card, cash or epay, but they didn't take...

Mammy Pancake has a bunch of exciting flavour options I'm looking forward to try. I'll admit I'm deeply skeptical about the savory flavours but I'll try them...one day. Let me at the earl grey first!
