Went here ages ago. Having tried most of the eateries on High Street, decided to try this was one out. When I sat down, I realized I have seen the guy before at THE DEN, so I knew that the beef dishes were going to be good because they have great steaks at THE DEN. The menu here is quite different, I liked the variety because they had fish and chips, scotch eggs but then they had Peruvian dishes as well. Started with the grapefruit soda which is made with real grapefruit. For starters, it was difficult to choose because all of them seemed good. So in the end had the scotch eggs which were crispy on the outside with soft and juicy pork meat and oozing yolk. The Wagyu beef empanadas were fab and I loved the different sauces beneath them, The purple one was a punchy olive. Also tried their homemade Tabasco sauce which has a very strong capsicum smell with a fiery kick. The juicy mini sliders were also good, packed with cheese and sauces. For mains, had the Wagyu beef bolognese which was simple with rich tomato sauce and decent beef. The roast duck parpadelle was interesting because of the Sichuan Mushrooms, which look like truffles! Finished with the chocolate lava cake which was a sweet end to dinner. Also had the grilled asparagus and halloumi, a great appetizer because of the chimichurri sauce. Hope to see PERUVIAN DONUTS on the...
Read moreTL;DR: A very unique pub/bar with awesome staffs, people and music, and serves really awesome food. This is how I would define a “real local gem”
So… I was referred to this place by a good friend of mine around a month ago. Since then I’ve been back fairly regularly!
Both Pete’s Place and The Den are ran by a lovely lady called TM and her son, Anthony. The place has an exceptional atmosphere and the crowd is friendly and well diversified in terms of age and culture. They offer a wide range of drinks but the highlights here are definitely their food menu.
They specialise in Wagyu Beef and having tried a few times, I have to admit, that to my utmost surprise, it really is on par with the premium steak houses in Hong Kong (Bistecca, Grand Hyatt, Morton’s etc) albeit only fraction of the cost. They have different food promotions each night, and Wednesday is one of my favourite nights as they offer a selection of top quality Oysters from US/AUS/France/NZ for about $20. You can eat the food at the bar, or for a quieter/romantic atmosphere, simply go next door.
Tips: Highly recommend giving this place a shot on a Friday if it’s your first time. It’s a good place to start your...
Read moreAmazing food in a really miserable setting. TM's hads great food, but a serious identity crisis means you can't enjoy it. . There are two menues - one is very fancy, fine dining that does not fit in the bar atmosphere. The other is the street food menu from nearby Bingaz. Both are excellent. . The issue comes from the fact that TM's is essentially an extension of next door Pete's Place, and is overrun by loud, obnoxious expats in various stages of drunkeness yelling and carousing with abandon. . If TM's thinks they are a restaurant, they should kick these yobs out and let diners enjoy their meals, but they actually seem to just want to be another hangout bar that unfortunate people like me wander into every once in a while thinking it might be a restaurant. . Such a waste of an excellent menu and obviously...
