Tried this ramen joint recently. It was previously on the Michelin guide years ago.
The ramen was good. We had the tonkotsu ramen and the slow cooked pork shoyu Ramen.
The tonkostu ramen had a thick and creamy broth. Very flavourful but a bit oily. The noodles were cooked to a nice texture. It paired well with the soup. The char siu was thin but tender.
The shoyu ramen had a strong taste, flavour wise but a thinner consistency for the broth. The slow cooked pork was soft but not fully cooked that’s why it’s a little pink. We were a little iffy about eating pork that’s not fully cooked but it taste decent.
The last thing we tried was the chicken gyoza. The filling was like the typical gyoza you get anywhere else but the wrapper was made of chicken skin. It was an interesting concept but we didn’t like it that much because the skin wasn’t crispy enough. It was chewy and made the dumplings fall apart when you tried to bite into it. If it was crispier, I believe it would taste a lot better.
Overall, the ramen was yummy but the service was non existent and very hostile. The staffs were all inattentive and made the dining experience not great. The renovations are a bit old and the tables are a bit sticky with a small odour.
Not sure if we’ll dine here again but if you’re in the area and want some decent ramen you...
Read moreThis is one of the best ramen shops I have been to in HK. I enjoyed everything that I ordered. I have seen some complaints on the price in other reviews; however, the price for a bowl of ramen is actually cheaper than most places like ichiran where a bowl of ramen will cost somewhere around 150 hkd after all the add ons. Definitely will come back and this is a place I would go out of my way to go for a meal.
Food: 4.25 stars Value: 4.5 stars Overall: 4.25 stars Recommendations: Special tsukemen, chicken karage, char shiu rice
I didn’t have a chance to try the soup based ramen and had the special tsukemen ramen. The dipping sauce wasn’t to salty which is an issue I have sometimes. The noodles were nice in springy and had a nice texture to them. The char siu is thinly sliced into strips and is more on the fatty side. By itself it’s not flavored heavily but with the dipping sauce it is really nice.
The char siu rice was something I surprisingly really enjoyed. The char siu is finished off with a blow torch giving it a real nice smoky flavor to it. The rice is also well cooked and the two components make a nice pairing.
The fried chicken (karage) here is also very good. Nice and juicy on the inside and a crispy crunch on the outside. If you have room for this definitely give this a...
Read moreIntended to have a peaceful dinner with my friend, instead, it was an absolute mistake to come in here. If you prefer to eat your meal in peace and a girl who eats slowly, stay away from this restaurant. The food is good which we have no problem with. However, the service is terrible. The English-speaking waitress stared at us towards the end of our meal and kept on “whispering” to her coworkers that we had been eating for over an hour which was too long. Still, we haven’t spent a second chatting without eating. However, we noticed that 2 other girls beside us hadn’t touched their food for at least 20 minutes since it had been served and kept on chatting. I believe at least we respected the chef’s effort and ate our meals straightaway. The waitress even took our plate away when my chopsticks were still holding the last piece of the food. While we were paying, the waitress didn’t stop complaining about us who spent too much time eating. I could not believe that this was the kind of service that a Michelin-recommended restaurant would provide. We are not...
