As an izakaya, the interior was unconventional yet photogenically phenomenal. The portraits lined on the entryway continued to scatter across the space. The cabinets stocked with wine bottles, erratically placed greeneries and stained-glass lampshades all come together eclectically. Outside the windows, it is the stunning sweeping view of the Victoria Harbour, a view that could be enjoyed both during daytime and at night.

The hospitality here is very friendly and welcoming. Together with the comfortable seats and music, the laid-back and homey vibe allows groups of friends to catch up and get lost in conversations, while also be a romantic spot for dates.

Starters - ◊ Edamame with yuzu or chili salt ◊ Charcoal Cauliflower Karaage ◊ Dried Blowfish with homemade mayo ◊ Oysters with ponzu and chili radish ◊ Sashimi Platter ◊ Crispy Baby Corn ◊ Spinach Gomae ◊ Chicken Meatballs

◊ A3 Wagyu Sando (7/10) Being the star of the menu, the wagyu slices were soft and tender with crispy skin. However, given the price, I have expected the wagyu to be more meltingly tender and possess a more intense beefy flavour. I just thought there was a little bit too much sauce (probably mayo) and the dish was slightly too heavy as a main course for one person.

◊ Saba Mirin Boshi (7/10) The fish was up to standard but lacked wow factor. Personally the seasoning was on the light side, especially when this dish was mirin-boshi. Contrasting with the wagyu sando, the portion of this dish was a bit too small.

Dessert Bento - Warabimochi chocolate Cheesecake yuzu cream Monaka tonka bean...

We went to our fair share of luxury bars and restaurants around Hong Kong, and The Aubrey became by far our favourite place to go.

The setting is extremely nice, without being too noisy, and the different areas of the restaurant and bar means that you can experience relatively new atmospheres depending on where you are seated.

The drinks are amazing, crafted with attention to details and are, to be fair, in the same price rage as any other bars in Hong Kong, which is remarkable.

We tried the restaurant only once, and had the Premium Isakaya menu, which we are going to remember for a very long time. The seafood was exceptionally fresh, delicate and paired in a brilliant way. The waiters knew perfectly what they were doing and were able to tell us everything we wanted to know about the food coming to us. (Origin, type of seafood, order in which the chef thought it’d be best to eat in).

We will come back as often as possible, and every time we do, it ends up being a very special evening.

A special thank you to Leonardo and Marti who made us feel welcome and at home, and Tycoon and Andrew that displayed with brio their knowledge in their craft, and were able to make us drinks based on what they knew we’d love. Those wonderful people are what makes this place stand out from any other...

Food was good. The best part was the sashimi and the fried rice. Sandwiches were amazing. All food items were served fresh and hot. Good reservation process with quick responses. Very well received at the reception. Very well received at the bar. Service surely needs to be improved. One very competent lady was handling most of the tables with helpers who seemed incompetent, or atleast in her view as she kept on having a go at them. Which was very nice to see. They surely can delegate a couple more experienced staff. We informed it was our anniversary but asked them not to write anything on plates, however it would have been nice to be wished or acknowledged. That much is expected of a place such as this. The desert platter was a total miss. Extremely poor for the quality of the courses served. The seating is a bit uncomfortable as these tables were not made for dining but rather having finger food with drinks. Overall a good experience, we will go again if we visit Hong Kong.
