Pho Viet Authentic Hanoi Cuisine, 99 Portland St. G/F Visited Pho Viet Authentic Hanoi (PVAH) restaurant in Nov 2020 for dinner. PVAH opens at 18:30 daily. I arrived at around 18:15 and there were about 5 or 6 customers lining up and waiting for it opened for business. It can accommodate for less than 20 customers at a time. Before customers were seated, the waiter will measure their body temperature and served with hand sanitizer for sterilisation. They were told that if they were not eating or drinking, they were obliged to keep their masks on. Usually I would order raw beef soup noodles the first time when visiting a Vietnamese restaurant, no exception when visiting PVAH. It uses tenderloin instead of normal beef, that is why it costs at least 50% more expensive than a bowl of normal raw beef soup noodles. I drank a spoonful of the very hot soup and then quickly drew down the tenderloin to the bottom of the bowl to make the tenderloin turning to medium well done. There were green onion and coriander but no soya bean, it tasted nice. The portion of the noodles were relatively small and fair, the tenderloin was soft and delicious. The chef is clever in using tenderloin because s/he can control and ensure the texture of the meat, and understands that a higher price can be charged for the menu given the restaurant’s location. However, there are limited choices on the menu. As a whole, the food quality and service of this restaurant was good, it is...
Read moreCame here 15 minutes before 12noon opening time, already a queue. Fortunately the cutoff on the first round included me. People behind me had to wait another 20-30 minutes until the first group started finishing their meals. Inside is small and perhaps sit less than 20 people. Decor was tasteful. #2 pho bo vien $98 definitely was few notches above an average combo pho at any HK Vietnamese place. The beef filet was tender and beef ball juicy. Soup tasty though slightly on the salty side. Goi cuon (tom cuon or shrimp roll) $62 I didn't find them to be that exceptional, just average and a little pricey. Tangerine ice tea $29 was good and refreshing. Though the noodles at $98 appears to be expensive, maybe $20 more than average, but you get what you paid for. Would I queue up again especially for a long time. No. That's because no food is that worthwhile to wait an hour over...
Read moreGiven the COVID-19, we decided to buy back to eat at home.
We ordered Bun Cha Hanoi and the Banh Mi for dinner! We actually had it several times before and we like it a lot!
The only bad thing of the restaurant that I could think of is the PRICE. It’s not cheap compared with other Vietnamese restaurants in Hong Kong. Banh Mi (I think it’s a bit small) is HK$72 in Kowloon side? That’s expensive! But if you are craving for Banh Mi nearby home, I will still come by.....
Thus this would be another reason I don’t come here that often. However it still has tones of people queuing up for a seat. Maybe the shop isn’t that big? Or the food is worth lining up?
If I have to line up for it, I would rather buy take away...
