Newly open in Mong Kok, 阿久根和牛拉麵屋 is a tsukemen and ramen restaurant with an interior design that resembles those in Japan a lot. First you get to order at a machine near the entrance, and then you wait with your receipt until you get a seat.
My friend and I were lucky to get two seats at the bar table, where we could see the chefs cook. And best of all, air con! It was a really warm day when we visited. There is also al fresco dining area which would be quite hot in summer.
We really wanted to try these chili powder, but it seems that they go better with ramen, and we ordered tsukemen, so we gave it a pass and probably try it next time when we order ramen.
I ordered this Chicken Tsukemen in white broth. This is probably the best tsukemen I have ever had, with those in Japan counted. I usually find the soup for tsukemen rather salty, which makes me crave for water after finishing the noodles. Yet, this one is thick with strong chicken flavor, but not salty at all! It was even good for sipping alone without noodles! How awesome is that?!
HKD$88 for this tsukemen is definitely worthy with the superb soup and all these goodies. The onsen egg was perfect, I love the runny egg yolk so much! Noodles was thick yet al dente. Chicken was tender and rightly flavored with black pepper. The whole tsukemen was very satisfying!
Strongly recommend you to try it before it...
Read moreThis is one of my favorite ramen shops in Hong Kong. I’m really into strong, rich flavors, and their tsukemen totally hits the spot. It’s got a deep prawn taste, and the soup is super thick, which helps it cling to the noodles perfectly.
The amount of protein in the tsukemen is just right. Not too much, not too little, so no complaints there. I’ve tried their ramen on a few different visits, and it’s nice, but I still prefer the tsukemen by far.
The queue usually starts around 7 in the evening, so it’s better to get there a bit earlier. Just a heads-up, the shop only has high-table seating, so it might be tricky for bigger groups to sit and chat comfortably.
Still, I absolutely love this place. I have been visiting this shop since i moved around the area 5 years ago. The food deserves way more recognition, and the service...
Read moreIt is very interesting that the waitress told me that there’s no wagyu once we entered the wagyu amen shop haha~ Since I can’t eat beef, I chose chicken ramen with a thicker soup base. It is not pure chicken soup. I can taste the pork bone inside it. It is thick and creamy but I don’t like it very much. The chicken is marinated with sweet soy sauce and quite chewy, but not as tender as I think it would be. The ramen are curly noodles so they soaks the soup very well. Also ordered chicken soft bone gyoza. It is quite bad as the dumpling skin is very soft and mushy. The filling is crunchy with the soft bones but the skin is...
