A group of eight of us reluctantly decided to choose 旺角火水爐 for a friend's birthday celebration. Despite having visited their Tuen Mun branch in the past and considering the food quality decent, this recent experience left us utterly disappointed.
The restaurant environment was dreadfully cramped, with tables for two and our group of eight being of the same size. Once the bowls, chopsticks, and hot pot were placed on the table, there was barely any space left for additional ingredients. When we expressed our concern about the lack of space, the staff had the audacity to continuously grumble, blaming us for placing a last-minute request to add an extra seat. However, the truth is that I had already informed the restaurant via the booking WhatsApp the previous night at 9 p.m., and they didn't bother to respond until the next afternoon. Their response left me infuriated. Furthermore, even if we hadn't added an extra person, the table still would have been insufficient for our group of seven.
To add insult to injury, regardless of the group size, the initial portion of the chicken pot was the same for everyone, which meant that as soon as the pot was served, we could immediately order a second portion. While we were still reading the menu, the staff rudely snatched the menus from our hands multiple times, insisting that we could only order after we finished the chicken pot. We couldn't comprehend why we couldn't browse the menu beforehand.
Throughout the evening, apart from the beef, it was a mystery as to what food we had actually ordered. The food was negligently placed on a small trolley beside us. If you were expecting to savor the hot pot at a leisurely pace, I strongly advise against coming to this place. However, if you're just a party of two or three people and the seating is slightly more spacious, you might find it marginally more tolerable. It's certainly not suitable for large group gatherings.
The food itself was mediocre at best. We ordered satay and peppered pork stomach soup, and while the soup base had a somewhat rich flavor that complemented starchy foods, it was nothing extraordinary. The hand-cut beef was passable and reasonably priced for an all-you-can-eat option.
To make matters worse, the staff who handled the call reconfirmation displayed a shockingly rude attitude. Throughout the night, she incessantly hurled words and shouted at us with an air of arrogance. She even became aggressive and rushed us to pay the bill. To top it all off, she conveniently "forgot" to return the deposit we had made until we reminded her, and even then, she sounded impatient and annoyed.
Overall, I found the service to be an utter disappointment. The entire dinner felt like a cold and unwelcoming experience. It fell far short of my expectations, and I left feeling thoroughly...
Read moreDespite small but A cool little hot pot place with interesting decor and happy vibe.
Food quality is very on point and the beef quality was very nice in an all u can eat setting. The cut is thick enough to taste the beef. The pork even just with one choice but they get the right one.
It doesn’t come with seafood in the combo but can be side ordered. The other ingredients were fresh too.
The snacks that was served was very well fried. The diced chicken was remarkable, hot and not dry and crispy. The fried spam was thick but stomach filling.
The alcohol cocktail was big in portion and well blended.
The soup stock bases were remarkable too. The coriander base was great and very intense taste of coriander and no msg. The satay source was thick too. Very prepared.
The staff was one good part of this place, lightly and friendly. And they serve a round of sake in the middle of the course for everyone which pushed the ambience up.
Overall price is ok with the overall quality...
Read moreI love the decoration here. The restaurant looks like an old cinema from the outside, with funny posters using the restaurant's name Fo Shui Lo. The tables, bowls and plates are all using the the theme of 80's Hong Kong. We chose the chicken soup rather than chicken, as it is too hot to have spicy chicken pot in this hot weather. And it taste good due to many fresh chicken and carrots to cook together. The fish maw, cooked in the soup is good for ladies to keep more collegen for a better skin texture in traditional Chinese thinking. So, we finished it without hesitation. The service here is very good. The staff served us politely and sincerely. For the all you can eat menu, we tried the beef, pork, meatballs and some vegetables. All are fresh, so that you could say the food here is worth for the price per head (seafood combo $258 per head, and 10%...
