Let me preface this by saying I don't consider this meal fine dining. It's decent French with a gorgeous view. I asked for a table by the window, we didn't get one. Place wasn't packed, so I am not sure why. I am a truffle novice, and my family won't make this as part of our festivities ever, so I was hoping for a surprise.
Bread, cream cheese and salted butter all truffle themed proved a promising start. The smell of the truffles were prominent in the butter, its musky tones mildly mesmerizing. Next came the house red I ordered. It was smoky and quite dry, though nothing special enough for me to memorize its name. The lobster salad, as one sees is actually half a lobster flavored with truffles with asparagi. Bad call on my part.
The tagliatelle was acceptable. Good clean clams, slightly too salty, which was a pity since they had flavour of their own. The pasta itself was fine, combined with a simple sauce, though the truffles were not memorable.
The beef cheek was tender, but it could've been even more so. The flavour of the red wine truffle sauce was well balanced. I suspect the flavour was on the lighter side to avoid destroying truffles, but what happened was neither the truffles nor the sauce reached their full potentials. Still absolutely lovely with the potato mash. I would've liked this dish slightly higher in temperature, but that's just me.
We also had chocolate truffle ganache, which was as nice as the title suggests.
Overall the meal was just okay, especially considering the 1000hkd bill was 60hkd bottled spring water with 10% service charge. The major disappointment was how unnoticeable the truffles were in the meal. Maybe I just didn't order the...
Read moreI reserved a table for my 30th Wedding Anniversary. For a high class restaurant, it created a very impression on me. 1) The restaurant imposes a lot of restrictions on customers: 1.1) Not allow preference of table. We booked this restaurant to cerebrate our 30th Wedding Anniversary and wanted to make this dinner special. We wanted to book a table for 2 by the window with a view of the Victoria harbour but the restaurant said No! Customers are not allowed to choose where to seat and they will put the customers where to seat depending on the availability of table. 1.2)Can only dine for 1.5 hours! 1.3)The reservation will only hold for 15 minutes, not allowed one minute late! 2) I made a reservation on the date of y anniversary but received a message 3 days before the date we booked that the restaurant had cancelled my booking but did nnot give any reasons. 3) The restaurant has a booking telephone number on the Facebook. The only time I successfully made the call was when I made the reservation but the manner was very poor (see above complaints). As soon as I found out the restaurant cancelled my reservation, I tried to call the restaurant at least 30 times at different times:11:00am, 12:00noon, 2:00pm, 3:00pm, 5:00pm, 9:00pm but nobody ever answered the telephone. 3)...
Read moreGreat atmosphere, good service and very nice habour view; however the afternoon tea menu's truffle, cream and parmesan spaghetti was local cafe standard.
I ordered this during afternoon tea time, it was $138, rather good value for a truffle spaghetti, it looked very good when the spaghetti arrived and the waiter freshly shaved the truffle on top of my spaghetti. However I took one mouthful, it was just a normal ordinary spaghetti from dried pasta, the cream was way too runny for the spaghetti to pick up the sauce, there was large slice of onion in the very runny cream sauce, onion in pasta should be chopped but not sliced, the taste of onion is way too strong if I eat the whole slice and overpower the flavour of other ingredient. This pasta tasted like local cafe spaghetti just because it added some truffle to make it looks appealing. I saw other truffle pasta from the same restaurant, other truffle pasta dishes look like freshly made tagliatelle. If they have to make low quality dishes just to lower the price for afternoon tea, they might as well better not to make this dish to tarnish the restaurant reputation, the spaghetti was absolutely below standard for an up...
