Read more🏔️ I know little about Tibet, other than it’s a region in the Himalayas and home to the Dalai Lama.. So, it’s all the more surprising to learn that Tibet was once its own vast empire where at its height in the 780s-790s, controlled a territory stretching across modern-day Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Burma, China, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.. I’ve not been to the Tibet region nor the various surrounding places such as Bhutan and Nepal, but hope to go there someday for a food adventure.. For now, let’s see what Tibetan food would taste like right here in 🇭🇰Hong Kong…
🍽️ Traditional Tibetan cuisine is uniquely shaped by its high altitude environment of the Tibetan plateau; hence the ample use of goat, yak, mutton, cheese (often from yak or goat milk), butter, yogurt; and also dumplings, noodles and soups. “My Kitchen” is a tiny Halal Tibetan eatery run by owner Hanief in Jordan. They usually do takeout, but have a bigger comfortable space upstairs for bigger groups (and by reservation only).. Ever searching for new flavour experiences, my curiosity led me here to sample for the first time a Tibetan Chicken Noodle Soup known as the 🍜Thukpa.. And it was a hearty bowlful of flavours! Smoky, tangy and spicy all at once… On the side, I also tried the 🥟Shabaley - a dumpling-looking bread/ puff pastry stuffed with meat and vegetables; and washed down with cup of 🧈Tibetan Po Cha aka Butter Tea.....

My visit to My Kitchen (Halal Tibetan Food) was an absolute highlight of my Hong Kong trip! From the moment I stepped in, the warm hospitality and impeccable service made me feel like family. The owner went above and beyond—not only guiding us through the menu with passion but also sharing recommendations for other halal eateries in the city. Their kindness didn’t stop there; after raving about the food, they even messaged me cooking instructions to recreate their magic at home!
Now, let’s talk about the food—WOW. The Chicken Chilli Momo was bursting with flavor, perfectly spiced, and so delicious it had us licking the plate. The Beef Thukpa was soul-warming comfort in a bowl, with tender meat and aromatic broth that left us craving more. It was so divine, we returned the very next day after our trip to victoria for another round!
This place isn’t just a restaurant—it’s an experience. The owner’s dedication to quality, halal authenticity, and heartfelt service is unmatched. If I could, I’d book a flight to Hong Kong just to eat here again. My Kitchen isn’t just a meal; it’s a memory and was one of the most difficult Ramadhan cravings Don’t miss it—whether you’re a traveler or a local, this gem deserves all the love! 🥟✨
P.S. Thank you for making my trip unforgettable—see you again soon...
