Ambient: The visit at Nokturno was not pleasant. We came after rush hour, were seated at a narrow table (we barely had space because it was all too close together) and the ambient lighting was a cool one - One of us got eye pain and a soft headache because of the weird light frequency (they wear glasses). It was very loud as well!
Service: The lady who gave us the place in the beginning was friendly and the waiter actually too but what felt a bit off was the following: Since we were not from Croatia, it felt like we did not get the "proper" service if you know... We felt turned down as standard tourist, what we weren't because we came from a job and wanted smth nice to eat before we headed home (Well, this restaurant has over 9000 overall great reviews 🤓)
Waiting time: Well.. We waited 15 minutes for our drinks. People who came after us got theirs before us. And for the food: We ordered nothing special - 3 Pizzas (Margarita, Vegetariana, Spicy) and a veggie lasagne. WE WAITED OVER 1 hour. When we politely asked the waiter why the food takes that long he responded: "It's soon at your table. Everything is a bit messy at the momenf and it's normal for this time." (15:19 or 03:19 pm).
Food: When we finally got our food it already was luke warm. We were sure that it was ready a long time ago and they just warmed it under infrared light. You could measure it with the lasagne because it normally should be burning hot when served (this because taken out of the oven and then brought to the table). It was not the case. Also the pizza was soggy and like warm. The crust wasn't crusty anymore and to counter the "average food - reviews".... IT WAS BELOW AVERAGE!!!!! I ate some better tasting deep frozen pizzas in my life than what the taste of the "freshly made" ones were.
The tomato sauce clearly was a cheap one - It tasted artificial and very sweet. There was some kind of thyme in it which tasted like Haribo. Very weird. The tomatoes on the Vegetariana were partly cold and to describe the cheese.... Well... If it was even cheese 🥲
But the worst was the lasagne. There was no real Bechamel sauce in it. It tasted like Gorganzola but it was not Gorganzola. The texture was more like starch powder mixed with something very liquidy... The noodles were not propper cooked - they were partly hard like uncooked ones and the veggies were just mashy somethings.
My friend said to his spicy pizza that the meat (ham and bacon) made the pizza taste okay because it covered the disgusting taste from the tomato sauce and "cheese" underneath.
We all normally eat everything on the plate - this also contains the crust (we love crusts!!!). But not at Nokturne. It was just inedible.
In summary: We would not visit it again (they also didn't say "Goodbye" nor "Thank You" when we left and we never were impolite to the waiters!!) There are for sure better places to enjoy food were you feel more welcomed and where you don't end up having stomache ache because of this...
Read moreMy wife and I have been visiting this street lined with outdoor patios for over 20 years and sadly it’s seen better days. The restaurant as I once knew it is definitely different, maybe new management, but the pride of ownership is lacking. The food quality was good, not exceptional, large in quantity and reasonably priced. Beer choices have changed and unfortunately Croatian beer has taken a backseat as they have none on tap! (Liquor supplier has changed according to our server). Service was good, most servers were friendly and easy to deal with. We ordered fried calamari to start, and unknowing to us charged $2.50 E for each tartar sauce (we had 2 and think it should be included). Main dishes we had were; Gnocchi, which was quite heavy and big portioned. Pizza Nocturno (large, good ingredients, well cooked, medium crust thickness. (I remember it being much thinner before). This is my go to food order when I visit. Can easily be split between 2 people. Linguini, good sized portion for the big eaters. Octopus salad, which I did not try, but was told it was excellent. Unfortunately we could not sit on the patio, as we were a party of 5 and could not be accommodated. Interior was ok, not my favourite ambiance (felt more like fast food). Washrooms need to be redone. Not enjoyable to use, broken toilets, and graffiti on the walls. I don’t like using them, and feeling dirtier than before its use. 0 stars for the washrooms, and the ladies felt the same way. Overall, sad to say, we will not be revisiting as the standards have dropped and there are better establishments to spend your time with family...
Read moreMy family and I came to Zagreb for a day trip and the staff and service absolutely RUINED our experience. Let’s start with the most rude & unwelcoming waiter I have ever seen. He rolled his eyes when we asked to order, and was giving nothing but attitude & negativity. We were two tables and ordered at the same time, our food came 15 minutes later than our other table. That’s not even the problem, when our food finally came, it came COLD. At this point, we were just fed up with the service, that we just wanted to leave. We asked to take the food back and give us a check, he refused and forcefully wanted to “reheat” our food. We had the manager called, no surprise, when a waiter is rude so is the manager. She was as rude as the waiter, with an even nastier attitude with NO desire to try and handle the situation. She insisted that she will try our food and prove to us the food was hot, it wasn’t. She even put her finger in our food & said, “see it’s hot”. She then told us to leave & never come back after we told her how unsatisfied we were with the service & food. Absolutely embarrassing for such a highly rated restaurant to be so obnoxious and have zero care for customer experience. No worries, we will NEVER come back. And we highly recommend nobody else go either, unless you want a terrible...
