Zadar, Dalmatia, Croatia - land of sunshine, grilled fish, and... monstrous, melted, guacamole-stuffed burgers the size of... just big. Too big.
Yeah. I didn’t see it coming either.
Strategically hidden in the old streets of a coastal town known more for olives and octopus than one-pound meat towers, this burger joint drops a full-on, napkin-failing, T-shirt-staining, BBQ-glazed bomb on your expectations. Forget sliders. Forget neat little brioche buns with a leaf of sadness and a gluten-free whisper of protein.
This place serves burgers that need their own zip code.
We’re talking two-handed, gravity-challenging, how-do-I-even-bite-this abominations (in the best possible way). Guacamole. Cheddar. Jalapeños. Onions. Sauces. Possibly an entire animal’s worth of meat. If you’re not allergic to flavor, you already know what to order.
Now, when your senses start shutting down from pure joy (or panic), there’s only one possible beverage pairing: the local Black Beer. Not just dark. Not a stout. Not a porter. Just… black. A mysterious dark knight of Croatian brewing heritage that somehow survived communism, capitalism, and probably the apocalypse. Served cold, in its own proper glass, with the kind of confidence you’d expect from a Supreme Court judge or a World Cup striker.
Water is available. For the weak.
I’d tell you more about the rest of the menu, but after two bites and a few sips of that beer, I blacked out from happiness.
This place doesn’t play fair. It plays dirty, greasy, glorious burger warfare.
FYI: the beer is...
Read moreVisit my insta @janefoodbaby for more! Visited La Famiglia twice during our 3-day visits! Not that Zadar old town was lacking of any good restaurant but felt like the staff here was very welcoming and their food is good (though on the pricey end).
I really wanted to try the Dalmatian Prosciutto (~€15) so I had that for breakfast. They were kind enough to serve this because most restaurants have a fixed menu for their breakfast set. All other items will only be available in the afternoon/evening. I truly enjoyed this, but had to drink a lot of water since it's so salty 🤣
We also had the 500g T-bone steak (~€33) for dinner a day before. Meat was salty (I just find this common in all the food across the entire Croatia), ordered for medium but it turned out to be medium well I think - meat was quite tough. What helped was the steak not a thick cut so it was manageable. Homemade fries were good just like most of the fries they have in other restaurants!
Probably what made them popular is the variety on the menu - they have breakfast set, pasta, burgers, desserts as well! I really wanted to try their "Fun board" which gives like a little overview of everything they serve here but I...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at this restaurant, and I must say it was a culinary delight! Their beetroot burger and falafel salad exceeded my expectations.
The burger was perfectly cooked, with a mouthwatering blend of flavors that left me craving more. The patty was flavorful and paired wonderfully with fresh veggies and a delectable sauce. It was clear that they take pride in crafting their burgers with care and attention to detail.
The falafel salad was equally impressive. The falafels themselves were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with just the right amount of seasoning.
The restaurant's ambiance was cozy and inviting, making it a perfect spot for a casual lunch or dinner. The staff were friendly and attentive, ensuring that my dining experience was both enjoyable and memorable.
If you're a fan of burgers and falafel, this restaurant is a must-visit. They have truly mastered the art of creating flavorful and satisfying dishes that cater to a variety of tastes. Don't miss the opportunity to savor their...
