Great food, horrible service: why I have mixed feelings about Na Čepu. We ordered fried cheese as an aperitif and veal with potato puree/beef rib with dumplings as main dishes; everything was impeccable, with tasty, HUGE portions, the best plates we ever had in Czechia. Nonetheless, the service was simply awful. One waiter treated us horribly, mostly because of HIS broken english. Firstly, I tried to order a dark beer (tmavý), but he simply couldn't understand a basic sentence like "I want a large glass of dark beer". He stared at me very confused, and to make things easier I just ordered a Pilsner Urquell - which was good as always. When we requested the bill, the same waiter repeatedly explained that the tip was not included in the final sum - followed by me confirming that I wouldn't pay the tip. At the end of my sentences, he stared like I was some kind of imbecile which couldn't understand his poor english and then he repeated it all over again. We are quite aware that tipping in Czechia is not mandatory (perhaps he supposed we were north americans who tip everywhere, but who knows); it was embarrassing to a point where it seemed he was trying to exploit us. I don't want to negatively affect the guy on his job, but the staff should be better prepared for tourists. Make a dedicated waiter with good english for foreigners, perhaps. We interacted briefly with other waiters and they were completely fine. I think it's shameful for the restaurant to have staff unable to speak proper english in a city as multicultural and packed with tourists as Prague. Would I recommend this place to a friend? Absolutely yes, if they are up to test their luck...
Read moreI visited this bar recently and, unfortunately, had a disappointing experience with one of the waiters Lukas M. From the start, his attitude felt dismissive and rude. When I asked for a table for two, his response was abrupt, and it felt like he was mocking me by repeatedly saying hello as if I were hard of hearing. This made me feel unwelcome right away.
While the bar itself was lovely, and other staff members were polite and professional, this waiter’s behavior overshadowed the entire experience. He seemed fixated on me speaking Czech, despite my efforts to thank him in his language while primarily speaking English. He even remarked, “We are in Prague, and we speak Czech,” which came across as rude and unnecessary. I tried to be polite, but he made the interaction uncomfortable by focusing on his preferences rather than providing good service.
Sadly, his attitude left me feeling unwelcome, and it’s unlikely I’d return despite the otherwise...
Read moreWe have eaten twice at Na Čepu - once sitting outside and then sitting inside. The food is excellent — delicious! We have had the mackerel tartare appetizer, and have had the rabbit “sous vide,” the duck confit, and the veal with spaetzle.
The first night we ate outside. The tables for two outside are a little too small to put everything on, so we had to use a chair for extra space. The seating is not as comfortable, and the table and chairs felt a little rickety, still, we made it all work.
The second night we ate inside. The table was a little larger, but still was a tight fit for everything. The seating was sturdy and comfortable. The decor inside is Interesting.
Both nights the service was excellent. The staff is friendly and attentive, and very welcoming.
Perhaps Na Čepu is a bit more expensive than many other restaurants, but it...
