Terrible service food is a gamble:
We didn't preorder a table and came around 18.00. When we arrived we were lead to believe it wasn't a problem and we could get a table by the waiter. She led us to the most cramped table I've ever sat at in my life. With my back to the staff entrance to the bar and my left elbow grinding on concrete pillar, I still had to endure the waiter asking me to move in more, and in a quite rude manner as well. It made us feel very unwelcome right away. Add to that loud reggae music totally out of place, and the worst karrage in my life and you can imagine what it was like. I also noticed how she didn't present us the food or wanted to help when we asked for advice or anything. For instance when we asked about dish sizes it seemed to bother her, and when we ordered 5 dishes it seemed like it was annoying when I told her they were all for sharing. They also write "gl" in the sake menu as in glass. See now I know sake usually is served in smaller sake cups but when they write glass and 1 costs 80-100 dkk then I imagine it will be at least a normal glass, instead I got a shots sized 7cl cup for my meal. Would have been great with a heads up. . Once again she says nothing. She also didn't present the food which I noticed that every other waiter did, and other guests were also provided towels to wash hands on arrival.
Everyone should be treated equal as guests, and I asure anyone reading this we aren't particularly rugged or offensive people in any way that could explain why we would be treated so differently.
All in all we would have preferred that they told us they were full when we asked for a table.
Most dishes were decent, not amazing and the karrage was straight terrible, unseasoned giant lumps of rubbery deep fried chicken. About 120 euros(820dkk) for the worst experience of the year so far
If the restaurant would like to improve i can recommend to burn that table, and fire or teach the particular waiter some basic manners she was the south...
Read moreSo I want to share my experience on all 3 points:
Food: The food was good. There's no way around it really. We had the miso soup which was nice. The problem was that they brought out Miso Soup, Jah Rice and Some kind of meat at the same time. I obviously ate the miso soup first, it's a soup... when I was done the rest of the food was cold. Still tasted very good but I feel like I was lacking a bit of "fresh food"-taste, or however you would describe it. If it was my fault, the waiter's fault or the kitchen's fault I am not sure, which brings me to...
Service: I asked at the very beginning if we should order just the entrees or everything at once and he told me all at once was fine and they would make sense of the delivery... Also the waiter was not very energetic which definitely doesn't help. They ask if we've eaten here before so clearly they experience a lot of people trying it out. When you are trying something out you need to hear other people talk about how much they love it. Give me some "When I am in Japan my grandma always makes XY soup". I don't know what half of the things were because you didn't tell me about any of the dishes. Really disappointing when we are there to spend money and be enlightened. Oh well
Atmosphere: Meh... Fine. Nice up front but VERY narrow and cramped in the back. For some people it's adds to the experience, so since nothing was wrong it's a 4 star.
3 total because I can't believe we were served cold meat for DKK 220 and OMG the prices. We ate almost nothing for DKK 1015. I was expeting more for the pricetag but didn't happen!
I probably won't be back but all in all it's a big 3 star. :)
PS: I had the octupus thing which was a daily special (same with miso) it was also...
Read moreI visited Friday September 15th with a good friend and we tried the Omakase Tasting Menu for 350DKR (min. 2 persons) which included 10 dishes: edamame, fresh vegetable salat, ika ichiyaboshi (squid), sashimi, karaage (deep fried chicken), gyoza (Japanese dumplings), Ebi Furai (Fried Shrimps), gyutataki (Japanese beef carpaccio), Rice and ice cream.
The sashimi, gyutataki and fresh vegetable salad was very delicious. The fried dishes were good, but not great than usual. I've been traveling in Japan for two months and I think the fried dishes needed some decorations in terms of slices of veggies or herbs to make the food presentation look better comparing to what you pay for. Especially the shrimps were dull with soya. We both had a Jah draft beer and were very satisfied with both the beer and the menu though some food presentations had lacks and the waiters very busy.
I wouldn't call this an typical izakaya since the traditional Japanese concepts offer small dishes in the amount of hours you're spending in the bar including alcoholic beverage for an amount of hours. Hence, you pay for the time spent. I guess this izakaya has it's own western interpretation of their on concept and is more a Japanese Tapas Restaurant rather than a traditional Japanese izakaya. Nevertheless, this place seems really authentic in it's atmosphere and interior. Even the toilets follow Japanese standards greeting you with an uplifted toilet seat once you enter. Check the bill before paying! We was charged water automatically even though we only had beer! If you're very, very hungry you might not get full by the...
