A Promising Restaurant, but an Uneven Experience whatever it is not a Michelin start restaurants so I'm not comparing to a much more expensive restaurant like I can often read on Google....
First the interior design is lovely, and the meal started on a very high note: an excellent rhubarb cocktail, a delicious croquette, followed by a simple yet perfectly executed potato dish, and a soup full of flavor. These opening dishes were truly impressive, well-balanced and refined in their simplicity.
Unfortunately, the rest of the experience was much more uneven. The crab salad came with burnt bread, which completely overpowered the delicate crab flavor. I understand the desire not to mask a premium ingredient with heavy seasoning, but in this case, the bitterness of the bread dominated and left an unpleasant aftertaste that lingered into the main course.
The meat dish, supposedly served with a pepper sauce, turned out to be more of a meat jus with green Madagascar pepper. It was disappointing. The sauce didn’t do justice to the quality of the meat, and the overly sweet confit tomatoes made the dish feel almost like a dessert unbalanced and confusing.
My partner’s chicken dish had perfectly crispy skin, and the sauce was well-made, though served in far too large a quantity, enough for five portions. Unfortunately, it was also far too salty.
As for dessert, I requested to switch the one offered on the menu because it contained an ingredient I dislike. I ended up with the waffles and luckily, they were the highlight of the second half of the meal. Classic but very well done: the waffle was ultra-crispy, almost like a biscuit, pairing beautifully with the ice cream. The blackberry and tonka bean combination was spot on.
All in all, we ate well, and the pricing was fair for a five-course menu. However, I was surprised that both main dishes had an extra charge, typically, only one dish in a tasting menu comes with a supplement.
As a French chef who has worked in several Michelin-starred restaurants, I believe many of the dishes could be improved simply by focusing on clarity and restraint. The potato salad and soup, for example, was the most memorable dish and also the simplest. Sometimes, less really is more.
I might return for certain à la carte dishes, but not for the tasting menu, it felt like a rollercoaster, with highs and lows throughout the meal.
Sadly, I didn’t leave a tip, really a first for me, not because I wasn’t polite, but because we felt a noticeable difference in how our table was treated compared to the one next to us. They were given time and attention when offering similar feedback, while we were not.
That said, this is still a very good restaurant, and I respect the effort of the chef team, creativity, and quality of ingredients. My review may be a bit critical, but it comes from a place of professional appreciation so maybe too critical🙏. I would still recommend the experience overall if you're in Copenhagen it is a lovely and not so expensive compared to some other traindy place in the town, I hope I will not miss respect to this team by giving a...
Read moreI recently had an incredibly disappointing and frustrating experience at Cofoco Restaurant. I had made a reservation for 8:00 PM on 29 May 2023 and arrived on time, only to be told by the staff that my booking had been canceled. This made absolutely no sense, as I wouldn't have shown up during my two day holiday if I had canceled the reservation in the first place. The whole situation was handled with rudeness and poor communication.
To make matters worse, we were instructed to wait outside in the freezing cold until a table was available. The lack of consideration for our comfort and well-being was evident. The team's behavior and demeanor throughout this ordeal were completely unprofessional.
After enduring the discomfort of waiting outside, we were informed at 9:00 PM that the restaurant would be closing in 15 minutes. This was not only inconvenient but also contradictory to the purpose of making a reservation.
When we expressed our dissatisfaction with the situation, the woman we spoke with began shouting at us. This level of aggression and disrespect is absolutely unacceptable and tarnished what could have been a pleasant dining experience. It was clear that our concerns were not taken seriously, and our patronage was not valued.
Overall, my visit to Cofoco Restaurant was an utter disappointment. From the initial confusion regarding the reservation to the disrespectful treatment and unprofessional conduct, it was a terrible experience. I sincerely hope that the management takes these concerns seriously and makes the necessary improvements to avoid subjecting future customers to similar treatment.
I cannot recommend Cofoco Restaurant based on my experience, and I would advise others to be cautious when considering dining at this establishment. The lack of professionalism, poor communication, and disrespectful behavior exhibited by the staff left a lasting negative impression. As a customer, I expected better treatment and a more enjoyable...
Read moreWOW, just WOW!
We tried to get a table the night previous, but the place was completely full, but we managed to book a table and were we glad that we did. From the street Cofoco just seems like a little restaurant, probably nice, but nothing extraordinary. How deceptive can looks be. We were warmly welcomed and shown to our seats quickly on arrival.
We opted for the five course menu. The portion sizes were all perfect and we left the restaurant pleasantly full but stuffed. All of the dishes were fully explained to us when they were served to the table by very friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff who were obviously, and rightly so, proud of their food. This is some of the best food that I have ever tasted, it was wonderful and the flavour combinations were very different from anything I have seen before. I would like to pic out a highlight course, but that would be unfair to all of the other courses.
The Salted Salmon, was so light and fresh, loved the smokey flavour of the Mussel soup and the drama when it was served, the Avocado, with mash on Ditta potatoes, bonito, puffed potatoes, piment d´espelette and sorrel was the dish that I was most unsure of, but it was a revelation. The Veal rump steak was a joy and the Lemon sorbet white chocolate mousse, malt and cacao crumble, herbal chocolate and tapioka pickled in lime was the perfect finale to a memorable meal.
I cannot recommend Restaurant Cofoco too highly. If we go back to Copenhagen again, this is the first place we will be booking. Go to Cofoco and enjoy a gastronomic delight, you will not be...
