The food was the star of this place and deserved 4/5, the chef/s obviously are encouraged and the food was imaginitive and fun to eat! I loved the greenhouse potatoes and the "biblomst" dish! The wine menu was a hit and miss for me, but I still give it a thumbs up since it complimented the food.
Sadly, the restaurant has all these add-on options to the menu, which the staff have been convinced to push quite hard. It actually made me feel uncomfortable asking questions about the food because every opportunity to upsell was grabbed.
Honestly, it was such a lovely menu and a nice evening, and it annoys me that they don't just simplify the menu and focus on the food. I can't imagine the chef wants to serve less good dishes.
The caviar addition is a good example- The tartar was truly incomplete without it, the various ingredients needed the caviar to compliment each other. But they don't substitute the caviar; they add it to the ready dish, so if you don't pay the extra 65kr, you are actually missing the full effect of the dish. It's better to serve a smaller portion than a lacking dish.
Consider focusing on your excellent chef and offering a basic menu, replacing the Snacks- 65kr Caviar- 75kr Truffle- 75
For just one extra upgrade to the "chefs whimsy" where guests can let the food impress them enough to shell out 65-210 kr extra. Spend the time at the table discussing the food and the concept. We are there for a culinary experience after all:)
I also think 110kr for an aperitif on top of the wine menu is unfair, and that was not even the upgraded wine menu for 495kr rather than 400;).
My main comment to the restaurant is that the local produce and the dish innovation were a delight, and the sale culture is the very opposite. Kind...
Read moreBooked here for a week day evening meal with my girlfriend. It's a small place but with a nice ambience. We opted for the 5 course menu without the optional upgrades.
Overall the food was good but didn't quite wow or amaze us in all cases. Part of the first starter was a little on the salty side. I did enjoy their take on tartare and it was wonderfully presented. My favourite course was probably the egg with mushroom and pearl barley. The creaminess of the egg yolk was a real standout. I also enjoyed the beef cheek, which was served with some tasty mash and beetroot that added some sweetness and earthiness. The dessert had great combination of flavours and textures and was my second favourite course.
Mes was a good experience but we were spoilt by a previous visit to Vækst that blew us away with the flavours and all the little extras between courses. After that it just didn't feel quite as good value for a very similar...
Read moreThe menu is fixed price for five (5) courses. I would say it's more like five tapas, but you get larger tapas plates in most places. That said, the food was mostly a very nice change of pace. You can see the care the chef and staff took in preparation and presentation, and the fresh, seasonal ingredients. However, my wife's main course (a brisket), what should be the star of the meal, was dry compared to mine. She couldn't eat it. I'm less discerning and polished it off, but it was definitely more dry and chewy compared to mine.
I'm never a fan of being charged for still water that doesn't come directly from a special bottle, no matter how minimal that charge may be in the scope of things. And to do so when it's not indicated on the menu and the restaurant is especially warm due to the weather and the way the sun just bakes the front windows at the hour we...
