My wife and I came here on our last night of our honeymoon, and left very disappointed. Granted, the restaurant didn’t know that detail about us but regardless it was not a positive experience overall. We sat outside and while our experience at first was good, as the night went on we realized we were wrong.
First, the positives: -Hugo Spritz was great, though traditionally it has mint in it and is made using lemons and not limes. We asked for mint to be added to ours and the restaurant accommodated! -My pizza tasted great, it has sweetness to it, spicy cured meats and fresh (not cooked) basil added on top. -The atmosphere INSIDE looked like it would be great! Cozy, warm, and vibrant…perfect mix of hygge and Italy! -Our server who brought us our pizza was really charming and personable! Didn’t get his name but he was great!
Now onto the areas where Spuntino could improve: -Overall the food was okay, though I feel like the menu could be a bit more…expansive? The biggest section on the menu was pizza, and while mine was good, my wife’s was just okay. I understand what they were trying to do with the menu, but ultimately I don’t think it works. Only two primi or secondi’s on offer but 2-3 times as many pizza’s?….at a place that doesn’t market itself as a pizzeria…? Hmm…the antipasti selection seems very odd, and not cohesive or as authentic as it could be. It feels as though the people running the place haven’t been to Italy or know what exactly to populate their menu with in order to feel authentic…almost as though they googled Italian food without understanding how to make it cohesive. -We were brought burrata but not brought or offered any kind of bread until we asked for it…kind of odd! -We came on a Friday night and while yes it was busy, our table outside and the others were nearly forgotten for most of our time there. After being done with our pizza’s for about 30-45 minutes and no sign of or check in from our server I had to walk in and ask for our dessert and the check (we had been at the restaurant for over 2 hours already). Overall, by the time we paid we were ready to leave just because the impression of the restaurant wasn’t positive.
Spuntino is seemingly a paradox in two ways. Firstly, the photos and descriptions of the restaurant on its’ website infer a warm cozy environment, serving up Italian classics and a friendly, hospitable atmosphere…yet what we received was quite the opposite. We (and several tables outside) were seemingly forgotten for such a long time. Didn’t feel like a dinner at your Nonna’s house. Second, the word “Spuntino” in Italian means a “short and quick snack/bite to eat between meals”…. That name doesn’t really fit in my opinion as the menu has a very tiny section of “snacks”, contrasted by the fact that the pizza section is the largest one, and the other sections (while albeit very tiny) imply that you ARE supposed to have a full meal there. Oh and nothing about our visit was short, either. It comes across as though Spuntino doesn’t know who it is trying to cater to, least of all who it is itself.
I think with its atmosphere, it could make a killing by “giving you a dinner at Nonna’s house with apertif’s, antipasti, delicious primi’s, and secondi, alongside woodfired pizza’s.” But alas a pizzera does not Nonna’s house make. We’d love to be proved wrong one day about this place, and I think Copenhagen deserves a restaurant like what Spuntino could be, but alas it has quite a ways to go before one can walk through its doors and feel the warm...
Read moreBeing Italian, I’d been curious to try this place for some time. Overall, it wasn’t a bad experience, but it didn’t impress either.
The atmosphere was on the noisy side, even being outside peak hours we had to speak in a loud voice to hear each other, and the tables were placed quite close together, which made the ambience less cosy.
The food was just ok, but not exceptional. I'd only save the complimentary bread that comes with the antipasti which was really good. Portions are decent.
The burrata, though, was definitely too liquid. Knowing the texture of authentic burrata, this was not remotely it. I didn't enjoy it.
The pizza dough in itself was good, but the mozzarella di bufala on my margherita had an unusual and unpleasant aftertaste that didn’t seem quite right, and it ruined it. This made me question the freshness of their cheeses, also considering the experience with the burrata ordered just before the main.
The pizza piccante, instead, was fine.
We didn’t try the pasta, so I can’t comment on that, but based on what we ordered, I’d say Spuntino might be an okay option for a meal, though probably not a place I’d be...
Read moreThe cheesy pizza was very rich and indulgent, and the green ravioli was delectable. The building is rather small and not the best kept of places, especially overstimulating when it is crowded, but the table was wide and comfortable. The waitress serving us was very nice, patient, and understanding. She did not argue at all about the wrong order that we mistakenly placed because did not know another name for pork. She directly remade the pizza, which is very appreciated. I personally am very fond of the simple Italian dishes on the menu, but a larger variety placed would be better like vegetables, other flour alternatives for people with limited dietary options like my mother. And a star off the food because the bread they brought was stale and un-fresh. I was full and could not try the gelato nor the tiramisu but they looked pretty good. I would come here again to...
