Asmak Restaurant — Restaurant in Giza

BEWARE: These people at this restaurant stated there was NO menu and led us to the front of the store to check out the fish. We thought this was very strange considering they had a menu on their Facebook page, so we asked about that. The guys said that it was an old menu but when we kept pressing it, eventually a menu magically appeared. Clearly they were trying to use us seeing that we are Americans and not Egyptians. After that we decided to leave and they became visibly upset. Who is going to do business with these people trying to use foreigners? Very shady business practices! Please stay away from this place. If we didn’t question it, who knows how much they would have charged!

PS: don’t buy into the whole “we have no menu, it’s a local thing”...That’s definitely not how it works. They DO have a menu, it’s just they’re trying to jack up the prices by having you order stuff with no set prices. Remember to always question...

A group of us (tourists and a native Egyptian) went here because we checked out the menu online snd heard the food was good. However, when we went there; the owner/staff said there was no menu and that we would have to purchase seafood by the weight. We went back and forth with the staff and said there’s a menu online but they lied and said its a old menu. We walked out and ended up going to another seafood restaurant (which ended up being great). Clearly; they thought were gullible tourists and were trying to make an extra buck off of us. Anyway, based on their dishonest practices I can’t recommend this place for tourists or...

Thank you for the experience—it was overall enjoyable. However, I had a few concerns: the butterfly shrimp lacked its usual flavor and tasted mostly of lemon, and the tahini was overly sour with a dominant lemon taste. The other dishes were decent, though not exceptional. The rice was good, and the fried calamari stood out as the highlight of the meal.
