Extremely rude. This goes beyond the pale. I would not recommend this restaurant/shop. The staff shows absolutely no respect for their customers, and worse they are liable to actively harass you!
There was a minor miscommunication about whether I wanted a bag, and even though it really should have ended with me saying, "I don't want one," one of the staff--I think possibly the manager--refused to accept that I wanted to simply buy and leave, and tried to force me to tell him where I lived and how far it is. Maybe this is just me, but I react very negatively to a menacing man trying to force me to give him details about where I live... I tried to tell him that I wasn't very far, and it really wasn't necessary to worry about it, but he flat out gave me an ultimatum that he needed me to tell him exactly where I was going. Unbelievable, right? It happened... I don't know if this guy had a bad day, or if he's just that kind of bully, but I would not wish that treatment on anyone, and I really recommend you find ANY other location to spend your money at. You owe it...
Read moreMy husband and I have been coming to Helsinki for years, but we ate here for the first time for dinner last night. We had a quite lovely experience. We ordered the Russian and Finnish specials, which provided an assortment of roe in pastry cups with hard boiled egg and sour cream (a perfect little bite) as well as vodka and sparkling wine, respectively. These dishes are especially good deals, and I would recommend them. The hostess did a nice job explaining what we were eating. We followed that with the oyster selection for two, which was also an education, since I had never had French oysters before. We were still a little peckish, so we finished up with blini and roe, also quite nice. In retrospect this probably would have been more appropriate as lunch or a snack than as dinner, but we left very happy. My husband commented, "That place was legit." This is not a tourist trap, if you're worried about that (though I'm sure they make a killing from cruise ships!). And even better, though the place is not cheap, I spent a lot less than I was...
Read moreHoly moly! We were there in the summer and just happened to stop by after getting off a boat ride and wanting to eat late lunch. The store had everything we enjoy eating.....which was dangerous! Like kids in a candy store we couldn't control our excitement as we perused the menu and settled on oyster tasting for two, caviar collection set of 3 and blinis, three caviar cups with quail eggs and of course vodka. We wanted to order seconds but had to restrain ourselves because we had a dinner reservation. The hostess Valeria and the young gentleman were really nice and accommodating, we enjoyed conversing with them. We enjoyed our meal there so much to the point where my husband wanted to cancel our dinner reservation and go back there! A must stop place but consult your doctor...
