Bartholdi — Restaurant in Colmar-Ribeauvillé

Had dinner here during our stay in Colmar. Made a reservation (even though it was a weekday) a couple of weeks before. Which turned out to be the smart thing...the place was almost fully booked.

After entering we were accompanied to our table by our waiter. Our English Bulldog was welcome as well.

Ordered a bottle of Crèmant d'Alsace (pink), Foie Gras (mi-cuit) and Oysters for starters. Both excellent choices. The foie gras was nice sized (two pieces), very smooth and tender. The oysters were soft and creamy, tasted very fresh.

For the mains we ordered the beef steak with morels and sides and the Steak Tartare. The beef was pretty good, nice meat. But the highlight was of course the morel sauce. Plenty of wonderful tasting morels. The steak Tartare is pretty famous here and is prepared right at the table. A huge amount of the best and freshest raw beef. Never had such a big sized steak tartare before...and I've had many. And it wasn't just the biggest, no. It was also the very best Steak Tartare I've had so far.

The Crèmant went very well with both the starters and the mains. It came together at around 150 Euros. Which is well priced for this kind of dinner. Classic french cuisine in a classic setting. Very cosy, very stylish.

Well...we have been there twice... Food was great, no doubt about that. Staff was mostly friendly, but the reason I cannot give five stars is one member of the staff who could not be more obviously disrespectfull. On our second visit when he took our plates a we wanted to order desertes he just turned his back to us a started talking to locals, not noticing us even in slightest. Then he walked out a did not bother to come back. And this was the way he made us feel all night. By the time someone else asked us about desertes, we were enough annoyed that we asked for a bill. So, if you are local, you are fine. If you are tourist, may be not so much, depending who is serving you. But given the way he slightly ruined our last evening in France, I cannot with clean conscience recommend the restaurant for tourists. Let me put it this way - if you are tourist, I give the restaurant 3 stars. If you are local, I would not probably hesitate to give it 5. Hence...

Il était 20 heures passé un soir de décembre quand nous nous arrêtons dans un des rares restaurants à nous proposer une table pour 4 personnes sans réservation. Ici, c'est en toute confiance que l'on pousse la porte vêtue d'un magnifique rideau épais empêchant les courants d'air froid. L'accueil promis par le patron est très courtois et nous propose de s'installer gentiment. Cette fois, c'est la bonne, nous avons enfin trouvé un bon restaurant nous promettant les délices traditionnel de Colmar. Ici ou là, une décoration très vieillotte, mais qui peut nous laisser présager qu'ici, on favorisera la maîtrise des coûts pour proposer un repas de qualité. Mais le repas vite servi va nous détromper, et la seule place des assiettes à table va vite nous faire comprendre le pot aux roses. Une maigrelette petite tranche de foie gras à 27 € servie avec sa petite feuille de salade pour la décoration. Nous ne pouvons malheureusement pas faire machine arrière, et ce n'est pas tout. C'est un véritable dîner spectacle au moment où on nous explique que la choucroute se consommera en deux fois, car une petite saucisse de Morteau ne tiendra pas dans l'assiette. Notre supplice se serait arrêté là, mais nous nous faisons agresser par la serveuse au moment de lui manifester que nous avons terminé, car elle est trop occupée à porter son fardeau tel un végétarien devant une côte de bœuf. Madame, s'il vous plaît, n'en voulez pas à votre conseillère d'orientation de vous avoir trahie, votre place n'est malheureusement pas dans le service rendu au client. Quant à l'addition, elle, elle vous sera encore plus indigeste qu'une morve que l'on sent descendre dans l'estomac quand l'angine arrive. Mon avis ? Restaurant qui a du potentiel, mais réellement gâché par le service (ce n'est pas le premier avis qu'il le fait remarquer.), donc préférez la concurrence à peine plus chère à deux pas d'ici, vous aurez peut-être le droit à une vraie place de choix, et vous garderez votre indigestion pour une autre fois. Je vous passe le marasme de nous demander si nous avons réservés alors que le numéro de téléphone...
