Aux Désirs de Manon — Restaurant in Paris

We stumbled on this place as we were seeking the metro. I purchased a raspberry pastry earlier from the Boulangerie Saint Louis on the Ile Saint-Louis which we later discovered had mold and had to toss. As I was on crutches, I had limited mobility and was darned if I left Paris without sampling a pastry! I picked up two here and quite enjoyed them. I thought the prices reasonable, but we did not get to other pastry locations to confirm if they were overpriced as other reviews claimed.

PROS: no mold in the pastries! (yay) Store was in a busy area and there were a nice flow of customers. Employee knew enough English to answer my question of where to order the pastries (they were in front of the store, register to pay in back). I did not feel judged my my horrible French attempts! ha!

The Le Marais has numerous boulangeries and the one that caught our eye was this aesthetically pleasing one which had displayed their beautiful creations in the glass panel. They have a wide range of bakery products, both sweet and savory. We tried the CHOUX PASTRY with CAPPUCCINO. The choux was delectable. It was airy and light and the chocolate frosting was definitely a perfect addition to an already tasty dessert. The cappuccino was not special though as it was prepared from a vending machine. A lot of visitors were straight up purchasing the baguette, so I am guessing that their freshly prepared baked products are most in demand. A good local bakery right by a metro stop. Service is fast and polite. People are stopping in on the to work, so the line builds up quickly—look first before getting in line. Baguettes good, little rolls up at the cash register delicious (the coco ones and the raisin ones especially), tarte pomme et aumand good. No complaints.

It is a take out place so don’t expect to sit. Can’t understand the criticisms from the self-anointed “local guides” who rate this place down because it’s not what it isn’t. One can of course always find a better place, but of the 3 we tried in this vicinity, we felt this...
