Actually one of the best meals (if not the best meal) we had in Paris! We were craving something spicy and chanced upon this Mala place while doing a random google search and boy did it impress! It was packed to the brim with a slight queue even close to its closing time at 10.30pm with both tourists and locals, and we knew we found something potentially special. The restaurant was structured like a traditional Mala place, where patrons are required to pick up a bowl and tongs and pick out the ingredients they would like to have. At the counter, we then choose the soup base we would like (we opted for dry stir fry) and the level of spiciness. Condiments and complimentary water was also available.
I think one thing that really impressed here was the level of spice was authentically chinese; no compromise is made for the taste preferences of the local crowd and it was truly refreshing to have something that was so satisfyingly, almost perfectly made so far away from home.
Prices were also reasonable at €3.20 per 100g and a minimum of 400g. Two of us picked out plenty of ingredients and after adding rice, cost us €26-€28. It was so good, we came back twice in three nights. One of the times was for take out - no compromise in the taste and container was carefully and thought wrapped with Saran wrap to prevent spillage and keep food warm.
So good and a definite must try! Staff are so polite too. I'll be having this for sure when I'm...
Read moreThe concept is great, customization of your own noodle soup! For both meat lovers and those that prefer to have less meat in their noodle soup, while being the latter I was able to choose a small quantity of all different vegetables and type of noodles then have it prepared by the kitchen with the soup of choice. The soup flavor was intense and all the ingredients integrate very well. The downside was that customers had to take at least 400g of ingredients, so either you take little then have to cut the queue to add random food in the bowl or you take too much and the bowl ends up too expensive, some indications of the weight of each ingredient would be more practical. Also the restaurant is small with tightly packed tables and chairs, eating there in winter with a bag and thick jacket made it quite inconvenient (no place to place those), maybe it’s an idea to add a hook under the table to hang people’s stuff. Overall I...
Read moreHate the waitress’s service. I was alone and she told me to sit on the window side. But there were lots of people sitting at the normal table, unless they came alone. So I told her I want to sit at another table, then she asked me to sit with another person together if I want to use those tables. Cannot understand her attitude. I met so many Chinese staffs who are unfriendly in Paris.
Since I am picky? Are u serious now? It is too creepy to allow some people to sit at comfortable tables and let some people sit on the window side even if all of them came alone. What is your standard? And it was so ridiculous when you told me to sit with a stranger at the same table unless there were lots of tables left to sit down. (There are so many reviews pointing out the waitress’s service. Check them with your eyes.) Thank you so much for giving a great...
