Chez Fred, depuis 1945 — Restaurant in Paris

Visited for for a few days in France and wanted to try something where the locals eat. The service was wonderful and in particular one of the staff had an English menu just to support our order. I was very surprised as I have been in France a week and often just guess based on my very poor interpretation. I was not shunned or embarrassed for lack of fictional France rather they were happy to see us enjoying our meal. In addition they supported us with choices of drinks and even offered we try before which was just so lovely. The recommended white wine was delicious and beer too. I recently visited Chez Fred and while the ambiance was delightful and truly evoked a classic French charm, I found the food to be underwhelming for the price we paid. The paté en croute was particularly disappointing - at 20€ for just half a slice, it felt like poor value. The tartare de boeuf was decent and the dessert was a classic choice, but nothing extraordinary.
