Finally something authentic! We ended up at this charming restaurant with no clue. We were walking around after visiting Shakespeare and co., looking for some ethnic food. We choose this place cause the menu was a french and handwritten, no photos of the food or thousands of translations. It seemed to me like a very local place. We weren't disappointed! The restaurant is cozy and charming, with few tables (for me it's a good sign of good quality, in Italy the best restaurants are always small). The kitchen is on sight and you can watch the lady chef prepare your dish. The owner is a huge and friendly man, he doesn't speak English but no worries cause we understood each other and he even managed to explain us the dishes. We choose tajini and it was my first time trying it. Delicious is not enough. I loved it. It came with an entire fish perfectly seasoned and grilled. This dish is spiced but not spicy, has a powerful taste but its gentle, it brought me far from the touristic area I was in. The dish was extremely generous in the portions for a very reasonable price. We were full but wanted to try a dessert anyway (I'm a food lover!). We adored the cute tunisin sweet. We finished dinner with a special mint tea the owner offered us. We felt so comfortable and the food was so good that we ended up lingering there chatting and laughing. It's a special place and I highly recommend to come here with an empty stomach and an open mind. This food will fill your body and...
Read moreChez Hamadi is pleasant and has an âauthenticâ feel. The serving and eating bowls are beautiful. Itâs located on a quiet street and, typically with a reservation, will allow you to eat outside. Even inside, it is pleasant.
The food, however, leaves much to be desired. The two salads we had (tomatoes with basil â but where was the basil? â and cruditĂ©s, eg. tomato, cucumber and lettuce) were entirely ho-hum.
The couscous was fine but not outstanding. It certainly looked good, but the semolina was overly clumped, the grilled meat was nothing special, and most disappointingly, the vegetable âsauceâ or âgravyâ just did not taste very appealing. As I said, everything was just fine, but nothing was outstanding or even very good.
The service also was, to be honest, not great. We had to pull silverware and cups from another table because we were short at ours. No one checked in with us about the food or anything else. Recommendations for food were hard to elicit (even in French).
In short, nothing terrible here, but nothing outstanding. That was our overall experience at...
». On passe commande. On demande. On demande.
