On this cold day in Paris, I was craving a zaatar manouche. We headed out for breakfast, and the place was packed. We ordered a Royal, a Zaatar, a Saj Cheese, and a Cheese Manouche. The Zaatar was satisfying, with fluffy dough and flavorful seasoning. However, the Cheese Manouche was disappointing; it didn’t seem to use Akkawi cheese, as the texture was more like melted rubbery rather than the authentic stretchiness it should have. The Saj wasn’t the traditional style we’re used to in Lebanon.
What stood out most was the lack of generosity. A Lebanese establishment should embody hospitality, but when we ordered a veggie platter to accompany the manakish, we were served a small takeaway container with just a few cherry tomatoes and cucumber slices.
