My wife and I booked this dinner the day before leaving Paris on our honeymoon in the pursuit to try classic French dishes we've always wanted to try. I actually had googled best steak frites in Paris, and L'Atelier Rouliere came up as one of the options. We saw it had escargot as well, so we figured we'd give it a try. We luckily arrived around opening before it got crowded to allow us to get settled in and speak with our waitress, Margot, about the menu. Specifically, we wanted to get escargot, steak tartare, bone marrow and steak frites. Ultimately, she recommended we get the ribs in lieu of the steak frites, which we got the last one available. The steak frites we had planned on ordering came with one bone marrow, which is what we had planned on, but apparently it did not come with the ribs. Luckly, Margot was/is incredible, and was able to get the chef to throw in a bone marrow with it for us. The escargot was incredible, it actually almost brought my wife to tears (the butter mix was the best we've ever had). The steak tartare with fries and salad was by far the best we've ever had, which was accompanied by a mustard flight (!!!!!!), which we couldn't get over because we love mustard in general, especially Dijon mustard, so that was a pleasant surprise on top of how incredible everything was. The ribs were the best BBQ ribs I've had (I'm from the South in the US) and unsurprisingly, the bone marrow was sinfully delicious. All in all, I'd say it was our favorite French restaurant we've been to (we've been to Le Bernadin and a few other Michelin star places) primarily because not only was the food amazing, but also because of the great atmosphere and because Margot made us feel so welcome and comfortable. Mind you, we are American, so we honestly expected to be treated as such, but she went above and beyond to make our night extremely special. I'm not sure if it was just being in the City of Love for our honeymoon, but this place will always hold a special place in our hearts. We hope to...
Read moreI was recommended this place by someone who lives in the neighbourhood. There’s a mixture of French families and tourists. It also appears to be child friendly. The food is unashamedly French and classic so go there with with a big appetite. They’re charging three times as much and half portions in London for the same faddish food which is not faddish in Paris. Had the bone marrow to start which was excellent and then the kidneys which were very well prepared. Mushrooms were a bit dry on the side and the pepper sauce is used on several dishes here, not a problem. Excellent wine and the great thing about Paris is they don’t mark it up by a factor of three. So €40 will get you a very good quality wine. My only complained is the tables are very squeeze together and the service is very quick. Our starter came within five minutes and The main came within two minutes of clearing the starter This could be because we had arrived a bit early at 7:30 so got our orders in. Service might be a bit slower later in the evening. It was a Monday night and was absolutely packed by 8 pm, I saw a few people get walk-ins so if you go early enough you should be OK but better to book. The menus are only in French, but one of the waiters speaks English if...
Read moreBoucherie Roulière is perfect at what it does - beef.
We started with a gazpacho that was herby and fresh, more complex than many I had in the last month in Spain and Portugal. We followed that with a shared portion of the ricotta ravioli in a brown truffle demiglace. We then turned to the specialty of the house.
Two of us had tartare du boeuf, which was as it is meant to be. A fine example of the craft. Finely chopped, cornichon and the right amount of seasoning and Dijon. Small mesculen salad on the side. I had the entrecôte cooked á pointe, which was just right, with the best marrow I’ve ever had. The marrow was flavorful and not just the “beef jelly” I’ve had before and dismissed as not interesting. The pomme purée was also nice, smooth, and velvety.
All went perfectly with a nice St Estephe. Finished with a chocolate lava cake and a smile. The waitress was friendly and sweet, smiling a lot with us and the others in the restaurant at closing. The owner/manager was active and hands on. Overall, a great beef/steak option in the 6th....
