13 years ago I travelled to Paris from Chicago for a romantic trip with my girlfriend at the time. We stayed at an apartment overlooking the garden of Luxembourg and on the 3rd day there she dumped me and flew home.
It was a terrible time, I was heartbroken in one of the most beautiful cities in the world but I didn’t speak French, and I had paid for another 3 weeks to stay in this apartment. I felt isolated and alone, lost and completely rejected.
I wandered into this restaurant because I learned there was a piano there. I asked a waiter in broken French if I could practice in the daytime and explained that I was a pianist who needed to practice and I frankly just wanted a distraction.
The owner came out and told me to come play for his guests that evening- I played classical music but hadn’t played in a restaurant before and a lot of the music I knew was bombastic and loud and kind of inappropriate. He said “go buy a book of music and I’ll reimburse you!” The next day I went to a music shop and bought a big book of popular songs for like €20 and came back that evening to play songs from it. He paid me back, fed me a delicious pasta dinner and reimbursed me for the book.
He didn’t know who I was and I don’t remember his name, but when I think of his kindness to me in a time when I needed someone to show me some love it makes me choke up.
Thanks man, I am successful now and happy with a beautiful family. Please accept my most sincere thanks to you, and I look forward to coming for a meal in the next...
Read moreI rarely give long reviews like this but I feel like I needed to do this. I came across this restaurant on Google Maps. The place is lovely and food was great, ordered a bottle of wine as well. A male employee greeted us and he was super lovely and friendly (I wish I asked for his name). I love it that there was a live music! Everything was perfect until this employee (a lady with long black hair) ruined the experience. She was super unfriendly.
We ordered a cocktail and it was super watery, so we kindly asked her why it tasted so bad, and she was like “we didn’t put water in it”. She took the cocktail back and we got new one (which tasted the same, super watery).
And then we asked for the bill and she just literally put it on our table and left, didn’t ask anything about how we enjoyed the food or something. It was super rude tbh. I think if this lady still keeps being like this, she will ruin people’s experiences and affecting the reviews.
The table next then told us that they also had bad cocktails and she didn’t do anything about it.
Luckily the employee who greeted us in the beginning was super nice and offered us free limoncello because he asked if everything was great and we told him about the cocktails.
Food, place, dessert were good but if you want to have cocktails this might not be the right place for you. Also I hope you see this review and tell this lady employee to get trained or not to be rude. The guy employee was great, she should...
Read moreWe booked the restaurant for a romantic Valentine’s Day meal and came all the way from London for such occasion. However, the evening was very disappointing and a clear cash grab from the restaurant.
Upon arriving we were seated at a high bar table for 4 people (we were 2) right next to the door. We asked to move to 1 of the many vacant seats within the actual restaurant, to which this was refused with no reasoning. shortly after sitting down the Prosecco (included in the set menu) arrived.. with glitter in, a cheap Valentine’s Day gimmick for what seemed a classy restaurant. The starters arrived shortly after, a salad and sea bass carpaccio. The salad was incredibly disappointing and the sea bass worse, poorly presented and a serious lack of flavour.
After only finishing the salad, the mains then soon arrived, a mountain of overcooked, flavourless red pasta and a sub par heart-shaped pizza. Again an attempt to make up for the poor quality with a cheap valentines gimmick. At this point we decided to leave and salvage the rest of our valentines night by going to a local restaurant Le Hibou, which was great.
I’m sure on a regular evening la monte verdi is great. But again, at €170 for two people. they clearly used valentines as a cash grab at the expense of their integrity by opting for a cheap set menu which subsidised quality...
