Trash. Never eat here. First, our server was this Indian lady (for identification purposes). I wanted the soup of the day, so I asked what the soup of the day was, apparently she doesn't know and is too scared to ask. I asked her again when she came back "did you find out" she said "oh he already started so you cant cancel"...im like "i dont want to cancel i just want to know what I ordered", shes like "its not a problem, if you like soup its soup" I was literally so confused. Turns out its french onion soup when it came (and it came in 2 mins so clearly it was frozen so there was no reason I couldn't know what the soup was). My sister wanted oat milk latte, first she said yes to oat milk and then when she was reconfirming the order she didnt mention oat so my sister said "oh with oat milk" and now she was unsure and she was going to ask, never confirmed and brought an expresso with milk on the side (latte???). Clearly not oat since this woman is too scared to ask the chef anything. The worst part came when my mom started feeling dizzy and ill from her medication and we are tourists. I went inside to ask her for the 911 number in France and she said she didnt know and that I was basically getting in the way of their "5 star" restaurant (not her exact words) with dirty seat covers, fake flowers and street cafe vibe. LET ME MENTION THIS IS AFTER I TIPPED HER, after the already bad service (and let me mention that when she brought the bill my mom was already slumped over her seat and she didnt even ask us if we were okay). I asked her to ask the person next to us and that was the chef. She said he doesn't have time to call and basically kicked me out; I didnt want you to call I just want to know the number. Literally unacceptable, she didnt even attempt to ask another server. My mother could've literally collapsed. Disgusting. I ended up turning my data on to find out and no one checked up on us after that. I dont even know how to put this disaster into words, I have never experienced such confusion in my life. So so embarrassing for them.
EDIT: This occurred many years ago but I only just now realized it wasnt posted because it was a bit too aggressive. I edited it and reposting as this still makes my blood boil...doubt the waitress is even employed there...
Read moreA truly family friendly place in Latin Quarter, with marvelous views and congenial service.
This is not gourmet food and I didn't try the pizza. I had chips and guacamole, gin and tonic, and hamburgers. I think I came three or four times, once having an omelette. Table bread was way way better than average, better than some so-called "fine dining" establishments.
This place caters, obviously, to tourists. It does so in a kind manner. We watched the staff swiftly find a way to seat a group of about 8 people who had an enormous stroller with them. Many Parisian places will literally shoo such groups away, but this place managed to store the stroller in one corner of the terrace and seat the entire party in about 5-10 minutes. It's always crowded. That's because people learn that it's a reliable place to get a fast meal. With a view of Notre Dame.
They actually make reasonably priced cocktails, do not look down their noses at you, recognize you when you come back, and will tolerate small talk in French. There were French speaking people there (mostly older couples) and many people were having wine or cocktails with just a first course. They do not try to upsell you on the menu.
France has amazingly good hamburgers, and I'm picky about them, but this place passed my hamburger AND my french fry test. It also has great breakfast omelettes and their cafés are the same as at nearly every other French restaurant. It was our 10th trip to Paris, each time staying quite a while, so I do have a basis for comparison. We were staying on Rue Galande. You don't go out of your way to come here, but if you are hungry while in the Latin Quarter near the Seine, this is a great...
Read moreIf you're looking for mediocre food with a view, then this is the place for you! My family and I decided upon this restaurant after a morning spent walking through the Latin Quarter in the unbearable heat. We could tell from the outset that it would not be good, but we were too hungry and tired to walk further and figured, how bad could it be? We (a party of 3) were seated at a table for 4 which only had 2 place settings. No one came to give us another place setting until we asked for it halfway through the meal. We had 3 separate waiters throughout the course of our lunch. The entire time the maitre d was yelling at the other waiters and the host was harrassing people on the street trying to get them to sit down. One waiter was constantly being berated, dropped plates on a woman, and took 10 minutes to charge the credit card, and another came up to us three times with the wrong dish. Finally our food was served and it was mediocre, like something you could make in your own kitchen. The view of Notre Dame and the Seine were beautiful, but it's not worth it for the digusting food and...
