I made an online reservation for 6:30PM through The Fork, but apparently this restaurant doesn't open until 7PM. My party and I showed up on time. The restaurant had it's door wide open and there appeared to be a large table of people inside so I (and my remaining party of 3) entered the restaurant. We had no reason to think that the place was closed, and entered as usual- we were polite and overall just very confused with what happened thereafter. The large table eating was actually staff members of the restaurant and they immediately screamed at me and my guests to leave because they don't open until 7PM.
I explained that the reservation was for 6:30PM and had proof to show them, but the staff completely dismissed this, claimed we were lying, and were unnecessarily rude all while sprinkling in unnecessary comments about tourists in French. It isn't like I walked in, and, upon finding their mistake, demanded that they open the restaurant for us- in fact, we would have waited outside had it been professionally communicated- but they acted quite dramatic and unnecessarily asinine considering that I had proof and I tried to show them so that they could correct this for future customers.
I would be hesitant about making reservations here as they do not seem to communicate with their third party reservation system effectively, and, frankly their staff members are not nice and try to make the customer the issue. Either way, I'm super happy this happened because if we had waited, I'm sure they would have found a reason to spit in our food anyway given their putrid demeanors, and, instead of waiting, we found a cosy and inviting place 8min away. There are so many other lovely places in this area- go there instead...
Read moreJust across the River Seine and from Notre Dame Cathedral sits Le Petite Chatelet. The Shakespeare Bookstore is right next door too making this a very go-to spot in Paris. We were seated upstairs in an intimate nook overlooking the towers and flying buttresses of Notre Dame. Romantic and oh so, so French!!!! Our meal was just fantastic. From the homemade Pate, beautifully dressed salads, crispy crusted, light and fluffy baguette, Seafood Compote, Seared Duck Breast to the Profiteroles and Crepes Suzette, this is indeed a table you won't ever rush to leave. My husband enjoyed his duck so much when the waitress came to take our dessert order, my husband carefully pronounced another, "Magret De Canard, s'il vous plait." The French appreciate the effort you make to speak their language, but to her, at this moment it was as if he was speaking in Chinese. I could see she was struggling with the fact he wanted a second dinner. The manager promptly made his way to us to inquire if he was ordering a second dinner. My husband expressed his deep pleasure in eating every morsel, and thus he desired to savor it again, right now. The manager just nodded and instructed the waitress accordingly. Hard to believe he ate it all and still ended his meal with Crepes Suzette flambe and finished it. So when in Paris, eat and drink it all in very, very slowly. As to dine at Le Petite Chatelet, like fine French wines are to be savored,...
Read moreI planned to have lunch in another place, but it was packed, so I checked, and this place was close to where I was. So I decided to head to it. I got there and it was full, the place is small. I asked for a table, and the waitress told me that it would take 5 minutes and yes, after 5 minutes, the waitress called me and I got a nice seat close to the fireplace that is where they cook the meat by the way. This place is everything I had imagined about a classic Paris restaurant, the ambiance cozy, nice and relaxed, like having dinner at grandmom's house. I had the foie gras maison, that was just amazing and the confit de canard that I still am dreaming of, so delicious and rich; I ended all my breadbasket just cleaning the plate from the jus from the slow cooked duck, a separate mention for the potatos side that was great too. For dessert, I got the creme brulee, which for my surprise came as a pair in the plate, one traditional and the other with a strawberry compote at the bottom that was incredibly good. The price vs. benefit ratio, I think is really good, even when I think I pay a little extra since I order a la carte and not from the menu du jour which could save me 12 Euros. Also, I added a glass of the house wine. In conlusion, great place, amazing food and nice...
