A disappointing evening.
Nothing outstanding about the set dinner.
And a huge shock when we received the bill, which included a “supplement” charge of €9 in addition to the additional entree charge of €15 each, as we’d ordered these two additional entrees (starters) to our €49 set dinner.
Whilst it’s logical that we’ve to pay €15 for each of the additional entree, we were asked to also pay €9 each for these additional entrees because, as the manager repeatedly explained to us…and which the four of all, all senior citizens and ex-bankers, cannot understand…is why then the €9 charge on top of the €15? And, like a broken record, he repeated that it’s because we’d ordered an additional entree…in “supplement” to the entree that’s included in our set dinner.
Does this make sense to anyone reading this now…because we still don’t.
Then it gets more complicated. When we kept expressing our failure to comprehend this system and when asked if this was the standard practice in Paris (we’ve all been to Paris countless times, both for work and for leisure) his explanations were:
No.This isn’t a standard restaurant practice (Hence its unique to La Régalade) and We would be charged the €9 had we substituted the entree in our set dinner menu with this entree from their à la carte daily special…which makes sense. But we explained that that no substitutions were made and that that entree was in addition to our set dinner menu and not a substitute. So should not we be charged only its cost of €15 (in addition to our set dinner menu of €49)…but without the €9 supplement charge as it was not a supplement / substitution (which had it been done, then yes, we would have to pay the additional €9 on top of our €49 set dinner price…but then there wouldn’t be the €15 charge?)
He insisted that it was a “supplement” as we’ve had an additional entree.
So, to summarise: We paid €49 for our set dinner + €15 for our additional entree…+ €9 for that additional entree which is considered by them as a “supplement”
Can someone please explain the logic behind the €9 charge as despite our combined age of 294, we still cannot understand their pricing system. We gave up....

I don’t normally believe the Parisian stereotype that the people can be rude, but many of the staff in La Regalade lived up to this cliché.
Firstly, the initial greeting from the staff was very cold, and we were left at the table without menus for at least 10 minutes. While they proactively outlined the special dishes to other tables, they didnt show me and my partner the same courtesy, clearly showing a preferential treatment given to French diners over us. When taking our order, we had not yet chosen our desserts and asked could we choose later, but the waiter insisted it was not possible and we had to choose now. Was also given a gift card for the restaurant which the staff created issues about me using, explaining that I didnt inform them in advance and that there was a specific menu associated with the gift card. I’m sorry, but if they have problems accepting a gift card then they shouldnt be selling them in the first place, €150 should be €150 irrespective of it being cash or a voucher.
Towards the end of the meal, they must have realised our frustration with the service and they began make a little bit more of an effort to be friendly, but at this stage it was too little too late.
In summary, the rude staff spoiled what had the potential to be a pleasant experience, I would recommend avoiding this restaurant until the waiting staff receive some basic training in hospitality and change their terrible attitude to reach the same standard of the...
Read moreI went to this restaurant with my boyfriend last week. We knew it would be lots of people, thus, we reserved table before going. We arrived around 6, there’s no one inside. A waitress told us, “ All tables are full. You only have two choices: 1) Sit on the bar- table. (We are not tall enough at all...) 2) Sit on the upperstairs corner without air conditioner and fan! (The outside temperature is more than 30C.) If both are not ok, then sorry! There’s no more choices!” The worst and rude answer I have never heard! If there’s no tables, why could we reserve online?! I can totally feel her racism as we are Asian! Later, the customers sitting down on the upper corner were all Asian (Japanese & Chinese). What kind of service it’s?!
Fairly, the food was nice. But the service was totally a disaster! After we finished our meal, we asked for check. They charged us EUR59 more!!!!! Surely we argued for what we deserved!!! They didn’t even say sorry to us and we needed to walk down and paid by ourselves! Omg!! We are tourists only, but not those targets for deceiving!
Finally, we left and we went down to see if the restaurant was full-booking. All customers sitting on better and comfortable seats were all westerns... I can totally feel this restaurant is totally discriminated against Asian!! What a disaster and terrible experience I have never had!!!!!!!
I would like to say, if you are Asian, never never never go to this restaurant as you can only find ANGER in here!!!! Try other restaurants in Paris instead of such...
