A very nice cafe right by Balzacā€™s house with both indoor and outdoor seating options. It has beautiful, large windows with a view of the houseā€™s garden and the Eiffel Tower in the distance. The pastries are delicious (I really enjoyed the scone with butter and jam), and the food is very good as well. I tried the quiche with mushrooms and ham. The service was great, and I got to practice my French a bit, though they also know English. They offer almond or soy milk as non-dairy options.

Most incredible location.

Been going multiple times a month since September. Most of the time, really lovely international and English speaking staff.

However, every single time, the place is understaffed and wait times are so long - itā€™s a thing in Paris, rarely enough staff in cafes and the ones there get squeezed to the very last penny. I think itā€™s quite sad actually.

Today, the poor girl was alone with 18 people sitting, 6 people in front of me in the queue and 3 people waiting after me (ā€¦) so in her defense, she did well: taking orders, making coffee, preparing trays - kudos to her.

On the other hand, I ordered two slices of different cakes. There were no signs explaining whether they were gluten free or not (when I had a mouthful of mine - the GF one, I returned it because it was so dry and crumbly it actually tasted off).

I explained there should have a sign to let people know. I also told her that had I known it was GF, I wouldnā€™t have bought it. They were lucky my intolerance wasnā€™t the other way around otherwise I could have been sick.

She didnā€™t offer to swap it for another one and when I asked for a refund (6 euros!) she said no. I guess itā€™s more a criticism of the management of the place than the actual staff -...
