This small restaurant / wine bar serves “French Tapas” – small dishes made for sharing. But before I talk about the food, the most important thing to say about Sourire is that the ambiance ( a French word of course) of this place is simply wonderful. Comfortable, welcoming, not achingly “hip” but atmospheric, cool and friendly, with informed and helpful young staff, a bit of low volume background music to help the conversation along ... it’s the sort of place you feel you might spend rather a lot of time in if you lived locally. The clientele seemed a good mix the evening we were there; it is only 200 metres from Notre-Dame but was not overrun by tourists as far as we could tell. Cheese is perhaps the main theme of the menu; my colleague is vegetarian so we sampled one of the cheese plates, an excellent Morbier, and cheese croquettes, as well as the beautifully presented vegetable tartare, skinny fries and a delicious mushroom, walnut and cheese dish; it all ranged from the good to the excellent. Indeed, this must be amongst the very best reasonably priced places in Paris for vegetarians – the city is not very veggie-friendly in general! The tapas are priced in the 6-9 Euros range; so expect to pay 20 - 30 Euros a head for food , depending how hungry you are – with six tapas between the two of us, we didn’t make it to dessert. A good selection of reasonably priced French wines fits the menu well, and our total bill including a decent bottle of Coteaux de Languedoc was 64 Euros. And a final word on the staff – they even lent us an umbrella as the (unforecast) rain pelted down when we left. Although really, we didn’t want to...
Read moreJust visited this restaurant on New Year's Day by chance (thankfully), as soon as we walked in we had a very warm friendly welcome and even though we hadn't booked; we were given a table. The restaurant is very cosy with a calm sociable atmosphere, we arrived early but as we were leaving it was full!
The food! Is amazing! My partner and I shared 5 plates of really delicious food. We had scallops (cooked perfectly!), Argentinian steak, butternut soup, chicken croquettes and burger - all of it was just soooo good! It's been a while since we've both said that was a meal well worth what we paid!
We also had excellent wine recommendations from the waiter/co-owner who also explained the menu to us and continued to give us excellent service through the evening - which we recognised considering there were only 2 waiters serving but everyone was well served.
All in all, this is one of the best restaurants in and outside of Paris that we have been to in a while and would highly recommended it for excellent food and very reasonable prices (our total bill was 73.50euro for 5 plates and a bottle of very good wine) superb attentive service and such a good atmosphere to spend a relaxing evening.
We will definitely come back when we are in Paris and will recommend this highly to anyone that wants to eat excellent food in Paris!
Compliments to the chefs and waiters and thank you for making the first day of 2016 a very...
Read moreIf you're looking for a unique and eclectic dining experience, then this French tapas restaurant is worth checking out. While some dishes, like the "joue de porc," were absolutely fantastic, others fell a bit short, such as the cannelloni which lacked the bold flavors I was expecting.
While the food was hit or miss, my biggest issue was with the service. For example, we were only given four pieces of bread to go with eight pieces of cheese, which felt a bit stingy. And to make matters worse, we were never offered a refill on the bread. The kids loved the burgers and the fries.
Despite these shortcomings, I must say that the ambiance of the restaurant was quite lovely. The interior had a cozy and fun feel that made it a great spot for a sizzling evening out or a small gathering...
