Food was decently good compared to most Authentic Sichuan restaurants but the service is awful slow and abhorrent. It was abysmally bad that we had to leave midway eating after much frustration.
We ordered the crispy fish, string beans and beef tripe. It took them 40 minutes to deliver the first dish. During that 40 minutes, the bigger table next to us was a tour group of Chinese people. They were loud and obnoxious, demanding food to be delivered to their table at once. One by one their dishes came and they even ordered more to satisfy their gluttony. Meanwhile, the tables around them were filled with hungry disgruntled customers. We were on those groups.
One of the customers from the other table reprimanded the owner and told them they had waited an hour and their food was served cold when it arrived. They left immediately afterwards. Meanwhile, more food was served to the bigger table with the Chinese tour group. They drink and dined as though it was their own house.
A few of our dishes had finally arrived. However, it was just the cold beef tripe and sichuan long beans. We were left with no choice to start eating while waiting for our main dish - the crispy fish.
When we saw the crispy fish appear as the waiter move towards us, we were rejoicing with our empty plates and half eaten rice with insatiable hunger to be satisfied with the onlooking dish.
Much to our dismay, the rude tour group intercepted the waiter and told them it is their food order and snatched it to their table. The waiter begrudgingly gave it to them. We were appalled after waiting for an hour.
Harnessing last bit of our patience, we knew that there was preferential treatment to those people in the bigger table. We left to get our check while asking for a reason why our main dish has not arrived despite waiting for an hour. The owner told me it was too busy. Then she told the cook, “The table is cancelling their order!”. To which the cook responded, “Okay, no problem!”.
This had indicated to me that they barely had prepared it at all. I should have concluded that was the service and should had left a long time ago.
In conclusion, do not waste your time here unless you really crave Sichuan food and are willing to wait 1-2hrs. I’d suggest going to nearby alternative restaurants. They are just as good and plenty.

Read moreThis is the second time I've dined at X Lagrange. As a Chinese person, it's one of the best Chinese restaurants I've ever been to, in terms of the quality and authenticity of food, and in terms of experience. We were four and got grilled fish, a cold dish with chicken in spicy oil, haricots, pork with pickled mustard, stir fried tofu sticks, and lamb skewers. They serve slowly, that is true, but the staff are really nice to everyone, listening patiently to questions and requirements and making recommendations, and are fluent in French and English. The grilled fish was really good, crispy and spicy but not to a hurting point, and I think it's ideal to be shared with 2 to 4 people. The pork was soft and slimy with all the sweet fragrances of the pickled mustard, not greasy at all. The haricots were perfect accompanied with rice. The tofu is great, especially the sauce. The chicken amazing as well, just pay attention that there are peanuts in it. Lamb skewers were fantastic, the meat was well grilled and you could just pull it down with the chopsticks, and for lamb meat it's not that greasy. In terms of price it's really reasonable as well. We spent around 25 each. The patronne also gave us some handmade little snacks since she already knew me, and that was just nostalgic. In short, a place I would definitely recommend to have good Chinese food with a...
Read moreMy wife and I live in California and have just arrived for a month in Paris...finally...after nearly 3 years of CoVid delays. To our dismay, two of our favorite restaurants from years past did not survive. The apartment we're renting for the month is across the river from Notre Dame and we found this small Chinese restaurant around the corner and about a block away...What a find this is for us !....Our first meal was 3 nights ago and we returned last night for a second time and we'll be back in two more days. We began with best spring rolls I've ever had...completely fresh and cooked to order. Next was a beef ramen....that was 2 big for the 2 of us to finish...The broth was amazing, the beef was tender and, most importantly the noodles were freshly made in house !!....The, last night was more spring rolls, then a spicy chicken (not deep fried) dish and a pork dish...actually a beautifully caramelized and lacquered pork belly dish that was out of this world....The service was kind and attentive and we can't wait to go back and try more new dishes...They have at least 2 whole fish presentations....can't wait for those !.....Prices are very fair and everything is fresh and made to order......Go....you won't regret...
