AEDAEN PLACE — Restaurant in Strasbourg

Disappointing experience despite friendly service and nice atmosphere We visited Aedaen Place for our last evening in Strasbourg. The ambiance was lovely, and our female waitress was also very friendly.

I had a pizza which was absolutely delicious, though the portion was very large. My mother ordered the lasagna and was really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, what arrived looked more like a giant meatloaf than a lasagna – visually unappealing and only lukewarm on the inside.

She politely asked if it could be reheated, which they did without issue. However, when it came back, it was almost burnt on the outside and still just lukewarm inside. In the end, she only ate the small green side salad.

To top it off, when the bill came, the full €17 for the lasagna was still charged. I kindly asked if there could be a reduction, given the issue. Our lovely waitress went to check with her manager, but unfortunately came back saying the answer was no – my mother could have a coffee at most. She apologized several times, but that didn’t change the fact that our last evening in Strasbourg was rather spoiled.

Sadly, we won't be coming back. I just don't understand why there's no goodwill or proper hospitality in situations like this. Very disappointing and not what I’d expect from a place that otherwise looks...

Malheureusement la grande déception. La place est très mystérieuse et élégante, mais ce sont les deux seules avantages... Samedi soir, on est allés boire un verre et profiter de notre séjour à Strasbourg. Nous avons choisi les cocktails (un pour 20 euros). Malheureusement, mon copain a reçu le cocktail avec une mouche. On a appelé la serveuse, et la dame en ne disant rien (pardon) a pris ce verre et l'a apporté au bar. Après, on n'a vu que le barman a enlevé cette mouche et la serveuse nous a apporté exactement le même verre... Nous avons refusé de prendre ce cocktail et, nous avons demandé de nous apporter une addition et de payer juste pour les choses que nous avons bues. Au lieu de l'addition, un serveur (on ne l'a jamais vu avant) nous a donné encore un cocktail - deuxième fois nous avons refusé de le prendre et nous avons demandé l'addition. La serveuse est venue encore une fois. Cette fois elle a refusé de parler avec moi (peut-être le problème était lié à mon français - j'ai toujours un accent, mais avant, il n'y avait aucun souci avec la communication et mon niveau de français. Et vu qu'elle ne parlait pas en anglais...) et elle a raconté notre situation aux personnes à côté. pourquoi elle n'a pas essayé d'expliquer la situation avec nous? Nous avons attendu presque une heure pour que quelqu'un vient avec la facture. Et voilà, sur l'addition nous avons eu le cocktail avec la muche - nous avons essayé d'expliquer au barman (déjà la troisième personne qui est venu avec le cocktail avec la mouche) que nous voulions payer pour les verres que nous avons bu et que nous avons déjà mentionné cela 3 fois. Le barman a commencé de crier et il était énervé, il ne voulait pas dire pardon ni comprendre que cette situation était provoquée par eux. Après une dispute, nous avons été demandés de sortir sans payer. La place est super, mais le service doit être plus hospitalier et ouvert pour les besoins des clients. C'est dommage d'avoir tellement belle place et tellement mauvais employées. Unfortunately, our visit in this place is a totally deception. I have to admit place is really mysterious and elegant, but this is not enough. Saturday evening, we went out to drink something and to enjoy our stay in Strasbourg. We chose cocktails (one for 20 euros). Unfortunately, my boyfriend received a cocktail with a fly. We called waitress, and she didn't tell anything, she took the glass and she gave this glass to a bartender. We were so surprised when we saw a bartender took out this fly and waitress gave us exactly the same cocktail.... We denied to drink this and we asked for a bill for those things that we acctualy drank. Instead of the bill, another waiter (we didn't see him befor) gave us one more cocktail - second time we denied to take this and we asked for a bill (again). The same waitress came once again, she refused to speak with me (I speak french, maybe it's not perfect, I still have an accent, but befor I had never a problem with communication and she didn't spoke english....) and she started to explain this situation to the people sitting next to us - why she didn't explain this to us? We were waiting almost one hour till somebody came to us with the bill (it was already 3rd person with this cocktail). On the bill we saw the cocktail with this fly - we tried to explain (3rd time) we didn't drink this cocktail, we didn't want the second one with or without the fly and we did want pay just for those things that we drank. Unfortunately, this bartender started to be really angry and he started arguing with us. After that he said that we need to leave this place. Maybe the place is pretty cool, but the service level is really low. They know nothing about hospitality..... It's a pity to have such amazing place like that and such...

As a vegetarian, I wouldn’t come back or recommend going to Aedaen. The sign out front said they’d have a veggie burger, but when we ordered, the waiter first didn’t even know about the veggie burger, and then simply said they don’t have it (no explanation, he didn’t ask the kitchen for information, no “we ran out of ingredients” or the like).

The restaurant only had two vegetarian options on the menu: a plate of vegetables and a “Thai inspired” rice salad. I ordered the rice dish (as I thought it would be more filling) - but that was definitely the wrong choice.

I was served a small portion of ice-cold rice, and although it was neatly arranged in a flat circle, there was no sauce on or vegetables in the rice (except for some glazed onions). The dish only came with a handful of carrot and radish slices on top. All in all, it was fairly flavorless, relatively dry, and absolutely disappointing.

I have no idea why they’d have this dish on the menu rather than the veggie burger! This was definitely my least favorite meal I had in Strasbourg. The 16€ I paid for this dish just… hurt.

It was a real bummer I had to watch my friends happily eat a burger and fries while I was chewing on...
