My review on restaurants is mainly focused on answering 2 questions - do I recommend it to others and will I be coming back for another feast again. My answers are YES and YES.

As first timers at Strasbourg, we would like to try out some local cuisine like the Alsace style sausage. So, I ordered a dish that comes with 5 types of sausage samplers. Since my wife is not a big fan of sausage, she ordered the duck breast dish. OMG, both dishes are so.... delicious!! We love them.

Knowing their food is good, we also wanted to try out their dessert. We didn't want to go for the typical creme brûlée, so we ordered the Chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream. OMG, they are so... good.

if you look at the pictures for the presentation of food and dessert, they are so pleasant. We were so glad we bumped into this restaurant during late lunch hours. When we visited the area again at night, I think we overheard a server said that they were fully booked and couldn't take any walk-in anymore. it was Dec 30th 2023.

Definitely highly recommended to everyone. MUST try...

Our dinner at L’Oginon in Strasbourg was nothing short of amazing — a perfect mix of elegant French cuisine, stunning scenery, and warm hospitality.

We sat right along the river, with beautiful views of the water and the charming architecture that makes Strasbourg so special. The atmosphere was relaxed yet refined — ideal for savoring a truly memorable meal.

We ordered a delicious spread of pork shank, shrimp and salad, and every dish was bursting with flavor and beautifully prepared. For dessert, we were treated to a classic crème brûlée and a unique apricot lavender creation — both absolutely divine and the perfect ending to an unforgettable meal.

Our server Estelle was absolutely wonderful — kind, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. She made us feel right at home and ensured everything was perfect from start to finish.

If you’re in Strasbourg and looking for a refined yet cozy dinner with incredible food and riverside views, L’Oignon is the place. Five stars all the way — we’ll be dreaming about that apricot lavender dessert for a long...

After serving us (2pax) our entrée (within 10mins after ordering), they left us waiting for our main for more than 1hour (we had our eyes on the clock btw)

No waiter showed up during that time to ask for additional bewerages or payed any attention our table. After 3 other tables around us had already been served their food and even left we were told (after asking again), that there had been an "accident" with our plates.

After finally serving us, it turned out that the 20€ veal dish was less than around 150g of ripped apart meat (looked like other people's leftovers had been thrown on a new plate !?), literally 2 thin slices of mushroom, 2 thin slices of zucchini, some brown sauce and some Spätzle. I refused and returned my plate, as I think such a treatment and such a presentation is simply unacceptable.

My bf ate his dish (the Sauerkraut with 5 meats), as he was super hungry. Wasn't anything special according to him.

Total rip off and...

Considering that restaurant was marked 4.5 with €€€ sign we had higher expectations than what was delivered. The place is small but cute and waiters are nice. The online booking system worked so that is a plus. The risotto is a quick, easy and heavy one... Served in few minutes with lots of cream it definitely is not a traditional one. It came with girolles (typically very tasty mushrooms) that were there more for decoration rather than flavours. The "nage de poisson" that were 2 fish types in a, presumably, lobster bisque was not that good. The bisque was far too strong and not testing lobster. The fish didn't taste that fresh and had a thin skin left on the side of the sauce, leaving it soft and hard to remove/scrap from the fish, therefore giving a not so great taste to the fish either. The jambonneau is big and fatty (as expected) but quite heavy as the meat is dance. The sauce was nice though. Overall I would say it is rather pricey for value.

This place was cozy, and had extremely nice staff. The tiger steak was amazing, possibly the best steak I have ever eaten. I do not like rare meats, but the chef only cooks the tiger steak rare or blue, I never have had rare steak seared so perfectly and the tiger sauce was the perfect combination for the steak. The restaurant was a great first taste for me of this beautiful city. I would recommend L'Oignon to any one that visits Strasbourg. When my wife and I got our drink they first served us a stock broth that was a nice and tasty, I do not remember what exactly was in it, but I am a very picky eater so I was amazed that I enjoyed the broth. I am sure they will continue to do well. The space is limited and stated that if you do not have reservations, then it is by only available seating. We got lucky to have such an amazing dinner. Thank You to the staff and chef for letting sample your art.
