First Impressions matter. We were seated in a corner on comfortable benches, but they where old, torn apart and repaired with duck tape. We ordered a Winzer-Sekt which is a sparkling wine. Sparkling is the key characteristic of a sparkling wine, isn't it? However, the glas they served was old and did not have any sparkling at all. The glas was exchanged without problems. But, first two impressions... hmmm.
The steaks came after some time, no problem with that. However, we missed Amuse-Gueule or at least some complimentary bread with olives, spread or what have you. I mean, we were about to spend 70-100 Euro per Person and I would expect something like that.
Anyway, on with the steaks. I had dry aged rib eye and my wife an irish filet (tenderloin) Good quality, nothing to complain. The salad was good. Nothing more, nothing less, i.e. fresh but not super. What I do not understand is the fact that they charge 5 Euro for a small amount of store bough fries, you know, the ones you buy for your kids birthday or you expect at a curry wurst booth in the street. Come on guys. You can do better. The filet came with a Port wine jus which was, well, ok, but not exceptional. As if they failed to reduce the jus to an acceptable, i.e. tasting concentration. The worst was the 'pepper sauce' which tasted like mold, was not peppery at all and an insult to pepper itself. I complained about the moldy taste (which my wife confirmed) but as the waiter and the kitchen staff did not confirm, I simply said: "I did not like it". In a restaurant of this style I would have expected some kind of compensation, i.e. a sweet or apology. Nothing like that.
Overall, I do not recommend this place. You will get a similar meat quality somewhere else most likely without the dissapointments in sparkling wine without the sparkling, store bought fries and bad tasting...
Read moreVERY DISSAPOINTING. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE. THEY CARE MORE TO TAKE YOUR MONEY THAN OFFER A NICE EXPERIENCE. The drinks were mediocre at best, but imagine a whisky sour that looks like lemonade and has no foam on top. The appetizer selection was honestly underwhelming and definitely not worth €18 PER PERSON - we got 2 very small dates wrapped in bacon which were tasty, 2 springrolls with noodles inside which were questionable and not really from the same story, tartare was nice, 2 prawns which were ok, and a smudge ( a literal small smudge) of hummus. Paying 36€ for this is insane. One of the steaks was great while the other was not cooked as asked (I asked for medium and it was more on the rarer side). We got a very big portion of fries (more than 2 people should eat tbh) and the waiter asked us “only one?” as if insinuating the portion was small. It seemed like they just wanted to sell a lot and did not care to recommend us something we would actually enjoy and not throw away more than half of the portion. We also asked for a sauce which they never brought. When we asked to pay, we were first presented with the card machine before we could look at the items we were paying for. After we asked them again for the bill they brought it finally. More than that, the water bottle (which was brought to the table without a cap on) looked like it has been used and refilled for a while even though we paid 9€ for it. No one informed us and I did not see it on their website, but we paid 17€ as a tip as part of our bill, more than 10% of our bill while the service was not friendly, slow and a little bit judgy if I’m being honest. Overall, it was an ok ish experience but I would not come here again, nor would I recommend this place to anyone I know....
Read moreWe came to Brecht Steakhouse very hungry few days ago and with high hopes — it was the first day of my reunion with my mother, and we wanted everything to be perfect. The interior of the restaurant was lovely — cozy, well-designed, and inviting. Everything seemed to promise a pleasant evening.
Unfortunately, the service completely ruined the experience. Our waitress looked extremely tired and unkempt — her false eyelashes were falling off, and her hair was messy, the clothes was dirty. It immediately made us feel uncomfortable. When we asked for some clarification about the menu and whether she could recommend a steak (as my mom was interested in the Argentinian one), she seemed to misunderstand us — her English wasn’t very good — and suddenly raised her voice at us. She said we were being too indecisive about expensive food, which shocked us.
We calmly asked why she was speaking to us like that, and she immediately apologized, saying she was very tired and had worked 14 hours the day before and 10 hours that day. Still, this didn’t feel like a good excuse for such behavior. We came to relax and enjoy our time, not to be made uncomfortable.
In the end, we canceled our order and left without eating. It’s a shame — the place has potential, but the way the staff is treated seems to reflect on the customer experience. I believe the issue is not just with one employee, but with the management that allows such working conditions. Hopefully, they reconsider their approach to staffing and...
