The restaurant Ständige Vertretung is a Berliner institution located in the city center. In this restaurant the walls are full of German politicians, and its name "Ständige Vertretung" refers to the political decision of the reunited Germany after the fall of the Berlin Wall, to move the German capital from Bonn in Rheinland to Berlin back in the 1990ies. So the owners of this restaurant decided to cope with the new situation by moving with many thousands of politicians from their hometown Bonn in Rheinland and establish a "Ständige Vertretung", a "constant consulate" in Berlin, the new capital of the BRD (FRG), in order to preserve and propagate the Rheinland culture in Berlin. So the Ständige Vertretung has been in Berlin since the late 1990ies and since then it has been a special restaurant institution in the minds of many Berliners. The artsy walls full of pictures of important figures of the German public as well as the whole interior is very colorful and impressive. The staff is very friendly and the food is super-delicious and authentic. So when you are fond of authentic German food in a historic, artsy and colorful interior, this restaurant institution is the right place for you. We had the Kasseler Braten, a smoked pork chop with Sauerkraut and fried potatoes, a traditional dish from Kassel, a town in the center of Germany. And additionally we had 'Himmel un Ääd', the so-called most popular Rheinland dish, a dish with grilled black pudding (sausage), mashed potatoes, sautéed onions and apple compote. Our dishes we enjoyed with the traditional Gaffel Kölsch, a typical beer from Cologne. But here at the Ständige Vertretung you also can get plenty of other dishes such as Flammkuchen, a Tarte flambée, this traditional dish from the Alsace. When you are in Berlin this place is a must see! From Berlin with Love! Dr. Dr. Immanuel Fruhmann

The Stäv is very nicely located on the river Spree. It is very popular and you might have to wait for a table (I don't think they reserve outside tables). Food is not overly complicated and for Berlin and the location priced reasonably. When the waiter took our drinks order he mentioned that they had a backlog on the food and if we ordered food it might take a while. We ordered a "Flammkuchen" and the "Currywurst". It took 40 minutes for the food to be served, but since we had the time and our glasses were refilled we didn't mind. The food was freshly prepared, tasty and well presented. Service was good, despite the wait. It was a very nice meal overall. Be aware that if you order "Kölsch" you will probably be served a new one without ordering, unless you place your "beer coaster" on top of your glas (this is how it works in Cologne/Bonn).

Ständige Vertretung is a unique and charming restaurant located in Berlin, Germany. The restaurant is famous for its traditional German cuisine and its cozy, rustic atmosphere. The building itself has a lot of character and history. It is located in a reconstructed building that was originally built in the 18th century, and it served as the permanent representation of West Germany in East Germany during the Cold War. The interior of the restaurant is decorated with memorabilia from Germany's political history, adding to its unique ambiance. The menu features a variety of traditional German dishes, such as sausages, Schnitzel, and various types of beer, which are all served by friendly and welcoming staff. Overall, Ständige Vertretung is a great place to enjoy authentic German food and soak up some of the city's fascinating history.

Loved this place. Not sure if it was the sunny day or the company, but I had a nice time and that counts. I can vouch for the Berliner Weiße which comes in two flavors and the great food. I had a special and I am overly satisfied with what I got. Best part was dessert, which, for someone who loves Apfelstrudel, this was one of the best I had so far. Well, maybe there are better ones in the pastry shops (Bäckerei) but I'm still happy with what I got. Clean bathrooms and nice service. People could be bit nicer though, but it was satisfying anyways. I guess too many clients doesn't make any Waiter smile. That could get better... More waiters for the amount of people there. But that's something the manager should be aware of. They're still getting five stars.

Great restaurant with excellent quality. Even with a small name tag if you reserve. The ambience is typical of a vaulted cellar, a small souvenir shop is included, but a little away from the restaurant. There are various hygiene products in the toilets - really top and modern. To eat: Hearty German cuisine with great dishes. The knuckle is really recommended. Super tasty and really well prepared and served. There is also a (albeit manageable) vegetarian/vegan selection. The service was excellent. Kind regards to Robby. 😉 Overall, highly recommended! We had a great dinner and will definitely come back again! Definitely lives up to its good reputation

I’m here in Berlin, Germany visiting from the states. I ordered the Backhendl which consists of deep fried chicken marinated in butter milk with a spectacular tasting coating. You also get a side of cranberries made in a type of jam that’s like no other. The side of French fries (Frites) is delicious and the lamb lettuce were fresh and crisp to my liking. The beer I ordered was Taffelwasser Still which went down very smooth. The waitstaff were attentive and friendly. I paid what I expected, after all, I’m a tourist so no surprise there but very well worth it in my opinion. I highly recommend Stantige Vetretung.
