Curry Mitte — Restaurant in Berlin

Racist, rude and aggressive staff member.

I've been here a few times and it's always been a place to fill a need rather than one I would enthusiastically recommend, however today was extremely disappointing as it turned from a place that is 'ok' to a place I would actively recommend to never go to.

The person working there today was hostile from the moment we walked in. He was cold, patronizing and treated us like we were beneath him. But the climax was when he shouted at my friend (the only person of colour in the place at the time) sarcastically saying 'Good morning! Good morning! You found it! Well done!' when he politely asked for a bottle opener. Even people outside turned their heads when they heard the man shouting and were in shock at what had been going on. This attitude was clearly racially motivated as he then became very polite and friendly with the next large group who walked in and a number of others after that.

Other staff who have worked here have been totally fine and there was never an issue. But in a city like Berlin, with the liberal philosophy that brings people to the city, it's really quite shameful to see a person behaving like this when we were trying to bring him business.

The food is not anything memorable as mentioned before either. There are 100s of places to eat in Rosenthaler Platz, this is not...

We took a taxi here because we wanted currywurst and it was local. When we got there he had already closed but we explained that we had taken a taxi to get there and the host was so kind and made us food. He then told us he was supposed to close at 11pm but people kept arriving and he stayed 2h30 past his closing time to keep everyone fed. He was so kind and kept us entertained as we ate, really wanted to know everything we had done in Berlin and even asked what our local equivalent of currywurst was in Dublin (a spicebag).

On to the food. We went to curry 36 the night before we went here and enjoyed it. But when we came to curry mitte we were blown away. Everything was such good quality we were so amazed at how curry mitte doesn't have the same reputation when it is clear the owner cares so much about his business and wants everyone who eats there to have the best meal possible. It was my first time at the place and I couldn't even order.

The guy was counting a really huge amount of coins when I arrived, was so rude to not even reply to my “hello's” “hi's”, like I wasn't there. Without even looking at me swivelled his finger saying no.

Very arrogantly said it was closed, although it was pretty clear that it wasn't, he had a bunch of things frying, it was around 12:30pm and as soon as I left he probably took the order of 2 girls coming in.
