5 weeks ago, I got some takeout from Mamecha and discovered that an item was missing from the order when I got home. It’s not a big deal and I know it’s partly my fault that I didn’t double check every single item inside the bag carefully before I left the shop (I did check briefly when I stuff the bag into the basket on my bike but I always buy so much that it’s hard to keep track of every single item with individual packaging, i.e. 2+ bento lunch, side dishes, and a selection of cakes). Anyway, I called within 30 minutes and let them know immediately. However, the lady on the line said nothing, no response. I repeated what I said again (thinking to myself that perhaps she didn’t understand what I was saying), she finally responded saying in monotone, “What do you want to do about it?”. No apology, no resolution offered but an attitude. I said, “Well, I paid for something that I didn’t get, so what should I do about it!?”. She asked me to go back right away and pick up the missing item but I wasn’t prepared to bike 30 minutes back just to pick up one item. She then repeatedly asking me when I’d go back (i.e. give her a specific date and time), I couldn’t come up with a date on the spot so we settled on getting the missing item when I go back next time.

I went back 5 weeks later, explained to a few people behind the counter what happened. They offered me to eat there or take it away. I chose to take it away but was astounded that never a single Gomennasai or Sumimasen (apology) was given both times, everyone was acting as if I’ve offended them somehow which is really weird. I’m a regular customer who paid for something that was missing from my order, someone in the production line forgot to put in it, I had to go all the way back to pick it up, I didn’t ask for a cash refund, I’ve been nice about it and didn’t give anyone a hard time but yet, I’ve offended them?

Note to future customers: good Japanese food and I have been back since but please check every single item inside your takeout bag before you walk out. I’ve given them 2 stars, not because I didn’t like the food, I just didn’t like the...

Not to be rude but I left disappointed and don’t recommend this place. It’s not bad, just not good.

First of all, the food was rather expensive for what you get, and when I wanted to pay by card, the moment I laid my card on the machine the amount to pay went up by more than 3 euros because of a tip. I don’t know if this is legal but giving yourself a tip in germany, where it is not required or expected, without warning the customer feels very tacky.

Second of all the matcha cheesecake was not rich or flavorful, you could barely taste the matcha and the cheese in it tasted very plain and did not leave a nice aftertaste. The matcha and hojicha lattes were also pretty bland, the hojicha latte in Tenzan Lab is way more flavorful. (I did not try their matcha latte)

Furthermore the toilet was 1 euro. When you have to pay a tip without warning, have to clean up your own plates, and have to pay quite a lot for mediocre food and drinks, a toilet should not be 1 euro.

We also had onigiri and matcha crepe cake, they were okay.

If you want good flavorful matcha cheesecake in Berlin I recommend you go to Smartdeli Sushi & More (my favorite), Kame or Momiji,...

This place is filled with such love and charm, walking in gave me the biggest rush of excitement. I first ordered the Tori Karaage Bento that comes with miso soup, two salads, and rice. The bento was delectable, every component was amazing and I found myself devouring all the dishes. Then, I ordered a hot matcha latte which was amazing, creamy, not too sweet and the hot matcha flavor cut through an otherwise depressing rainy day. The Hojicha teapot was an experience, allowing us to re-pour our own tea, fragrant and balancing, perfect for pairing with their deserts. And finally, in my opinion what was the star of the show, the milk creme matcha layer crepe cake. This was spectacular. The matcha crepe layer to milk creme ratio was absolutely spot-on. As the layers and creme melt and unite in your mouth, your day can’t get better than this. The Japanese ladies running the shop were very nice and put a smile on my face with ease. I would come here every day if I could.

I would strongly suggest thinking twice before ordering a cake here. I placed an order three days in advance for a birthday celebration, but when I picked it up, the cake already had a noticeable split on the surface. When I pointed this out, the owner dismissed it as a “small split” and insisted that other customers wouldn’t have a problem with it. It was surprising (and disappointing) to see the issue brushed aside, especially given that this was a €41 cake meant for a special occasion. When I suggested a simple fix — covering the split with cream or decoration — the owner was very opinionated and insisted the cake should remain as she had made it. Unfortunately, the way the issue was handled felt dismissive and unprofessional. Instead of being a joyful centerpiece for a celebration, this cake ended up being a disappointment.

I forgot the name of the cake I ordered, maybe .... mame cake? It has a layer of tapioca flour (I guess?) on the top which makes it a special but nice taste. An only difficulty is that the layer is too sticky to be cut. The matcha latte with soy milk is okay but not as well as it was years ago. I don't rate the service since it is more like the way you order things in Starbucks, customers have to go to the cash desk to order and take their food to a table. So, generally no service. Please note that the cafe is not a quiet place where you can focus on your own things (no wifi) or even read a book. It is small, crowded, full (you even need to wait in queue in rush hours) with narrow pathways and just as chaos as a wet market. But if you enjoy meeting friends with everyone talking super loud around you, it is a perfect place.
