FOOD & DRINKS I love Taiwanese popcorn chicken. Done right and they can be so addicting. That is why I had to order them here together with a bowl of braised pork over rice. The popcorn chicken was pretty juicy inside, had a crispy coating and was covered with a layer of spices. For me the spice mixture would have been better with a sprinkle of salt since the chicken was only lightly seasoned. Add some Thai basil and this dish would have been so good. The braised pork was more on the sweeter side but not really anywhere too sweet. Very lightly seasoned here as well. Since it was pork belly it was quite fatty but it is supposed to be like that. If you get this dish I recommend to order some (pickled) veggies too. Just to cut down the fat and make the dish more balanced. I noticed that even though the dishes weren't really big, the batter and the fat made it quite heavy. Overall the food was ok. In my opinion it just needs a few more tweaks to step up.
SERVICE I can't remember if I ever had service this cold. Maybe during my visit in Hong Kong. No warm welcome. No smiles. Kept the talk to the minimum. This is the one time in my life where the cute waitress couldn't help to overlook some sloppiness.
ATMOSPHERE It is a small bistro with one table for about eight guests if they sit next to each other and a few more counter seats. It can be very cozy. If you don't mind sitting next to strangers like me this won't bother you. If you want some cozy place with your own table, this isn't the place you are looking for unless you have the table just for you while you eat here.
RATING Most of the dishes on the menu can be described as snacks but they are very affordable and great if you want to try out different things. The noodle soups on the other hand are really large and not expensive either. If it weren't for the service I would have considered four stars because the food was solid enough for the price to justify it. I want to come back to try out other items and see if the service is any...
Read moreWe had a very good experience at Fuyu. The foods we ordered were Taiwan authentic. The braised pork rice was definitely the highlight and similar to those we tried in Taiwan. The pieces of braised pork were so soft that they just melted into the rice in my mouth. The portion was big enough for one person considering that it was quite hearty. The fried tofu was also very tasty. The crispy tofu was in harmony with the slightly sour salty sauce and the fragrance of chopped cilantro toppings. And the price was affordable at €8 per pork dish. The place was quite small with only 3 tables and places along the bar area. It would get quite noisy if all seats are taken. Cash is preferred although meastro card is possible. Credit cards are...
Read moreThe best food I've had in Düsseldorf. The Taiwanese fare here is authentic. I had Lu Rou Fan, and it was heavenly. Just like what you'd get in Taiwan. The pork pieces are so soft that it melts in my mouth. Delicious. The other dishes are also excellent: The fried chicken is top. Crispy on the outside but juicy on the inside.
The service was excellent and friendly. Typical Taiwan hospitality :)
I walked out from this place a happy man. My tummy is even happier. I'll definitely come back.
Note: No credit card payment. The table only has three tables for two inside and counter seats. And one table for...
