Kushi-Tei of Tokyo in Düsseldorf. We have found our way to Düsseldorf, after a full day of relaxing at the tropical spa. Our first destination was Kushi-Tei! Excited because we saw a lot on social media pages about this restaurant. Our plans changed so we had to return to the Netherlands but since we are here, we decided to try out the kushiyaki and yakitori. Food: We have chosen the set with miso soup, the set comes with duck breast, shrimps, chicken and USA short rib. It tasted amazing! It reminded me of a shop in Nagoya back in 2018 where it was amazing aswell. Service: I like the entrance greetings and when you leave the restaurant. Very Japanese and cute. The service was great and I forgot to make a picture of the hot towel they give you but it also had their logo on it. Pretty nice! Also they serve Coca-Cola in a 330ml bottle so everything is Fineeeeee. With a lemon and 2 ice cubes, just perfect. Atmosphere: It is a cute restaurant with a traditional Japanese interior. You’ll get a nice table which really gives that Japanese vibe. The restaurant is mostly fully booked so prepare to make a reservation. Thankyou Kushi-Tei! We will be back for sure, thankyou for having us. Arigato gosaimasu 🙏🏻

FOOD & DRINKS Maybe the only Izakaya in Düsseldorf that offers BBQ skewers grilled over charcoal. In addition they also offer specials, other snacks and even fullsized meals. Since the skewers are the showrunner here I ordered a few plus a special. With Japanese style BBQ you often only get the smoke but not the char on the meat due to the charcoal that is used. Usually Japanese chefs add a slight char with a burner but that wasn't the case here. Therefore don't expect some nice colors on your skewers. I think some items could be crispier to add texture otherwise the chef did a very good job. Nothing was overcooked and seasoned nicely. SERVICE Service was professional but also felt a bit rushed. ATMOSPHERE I feel there are two sides to this place depending on where you are seated. There are parts that look nice in terms of selling the Izakaya feel and some areas look outdated / less cared for. I recommend a table at or near the BBQ station. RATING My only real issue in my opinion is that it is just too expensive for what you get on your table.

I recently visited this restaurant while in another city, unaware of the local break from 14:30 to 17:00, as we’re from Berlin, there’s typically no such break. We arrived around 13:10 and were not informed that the restaurant would close at 14:30. After a 30-minute wait for a table, the staff pressured us to order immediately, even though my friends were delayed due to a train issue. They insisted we needed to order right away because they would be closing soon. Unfortunately, we couldn’t place an order without all our party present. Two male staff members came over to further press us, which felt quite overwhelming. Had we known our time was so limited, we wouldn’t have chosen to dine here. The rushed atmosphere made it impossible to enjoy our meal, which was already overpriced and underwhelming. I tried explaining that we weren’t aware of the early closing time. The staff mentioned it was posted on the door with an attitude, but I’m fairly certain there was no notice about the lunch break (see attached photo). Overall, this experience was disappointing and frustrating. As someone who studies and works in the hospitality industry, it’s disheartening to see restaurants operate this way, treating customers as if they are a burden rather than a priority. The food didn't meet our expectations. The grilled dish was quite salty, and the chicken lacked flavor. However, the udon and unagi dishes were enjoyable. I won’t be returning.

This place has been on my "want to go" list for a while. Everytime I was too late or the lines were too long to wait in with 2 small children. But finally I had the chance to eat here while not waiting in line longer than 10/15 minutes. The menu for lunch has a little less options than the one for dinner so I had to adjust my order a bit. The staff is so friendly and really tried to help us to choose items on the menu and speak English with us. We chose the selection of different nigiri, maki and gunkan, the selection of 7 kinds of sashimi (the selection varies per day due to availability), the wagyu, the 5 different yakitori and the aburi toro salmon ikura. And I must say the quality of the rice and fish are amazing. I am ruïned forever. I won't be able to eat sushi in the Netherlands anymore. The price is very worth the quality. I found out later you can make a reservation. So on my next visit to Düsseldorf I will definitely make a reservation for dinner.

Tucked away in the bustling Little Tokyo of Düsseldorf, this charming Japanese restaurant delights with its extensive menu, featuring a wonderful variety of sushi, grilled skewers, ramen, and more. Each skewer was grilled to perfection, coated in a delectable sweet, salty, and sticky sauce that was absolutely mouthwatering. The sushi featured sticky, well-cooked rice, and the fish was notably fresh. The miso soup was flavorful, and the cold matcha tea was the perfect refreshing complement to the meal. Service was quick and efficient, making our dining experience smooth. However, the pricing seems a tad steep, particularly €24.50 for a bowl of rice with six skewers—two-thirds of which was chicken—felt a bit excessive. Despite the high prices, the quality of the food was undeniable. A great spot if you're looking for top-notch Japanese cuisine and don't mind paying a bit extra for it.

I was very much looking forward to exploring the Japanese cuisine in Dusseldorf and when I stumbled upon this place, I was completely adamant to eat here for dinner. I was with 3 other friends and we went on a Saturday evening at around 7:30pm - I believe they only do walk-ins during the weekends; luckily we only waited for 10 mins before being seated. The restaurant is quite spacious and the ambience is nice. I opted for the yakitori/sushi set and was very pleased with the quality of the food and portion size. It's not cheap but I thought it's a good value for the money. Service was also relatively quick considering how busy it was. All the servers were very friendly and accommodating; I requested for the yakitori sauces on the side and they delivered just that. It was the highlight of my Dusseldorf visit and I'd go back to this restaurant in a heartbeat!
