Hark! When I did cast mine humble boots upon the cobbled ways of Düsseldorf, weary from travel and beset by the trifles of mortal life, I chanced upon a hostelry most wondrous, yea, even named Hotel Motel One. A strange appellation, methinks, for what lodging calleth itself both hotel and motel, as if to embrace high-born lords and humble wayfarers alike? Yet therein lay its magic: a dwelling of contradictions made harmonious.
Upon mine entrance, I was greeted not by cold stone nor surly keepers, but by a brightness of air and countenance most fair. The attendants, as nimble sprites of service, did bow and smile, rendering assistance with a speed that would shame Mercury himself. They spake not with weary tongues, but with voices like lutes well-tuned, asking not "What bringeth thee here?" but rather, "How may we make thy life a velvet dream?"
The chamber bestowed unto me, though compact of footprint, was a jewel box of precision and cunning artifice. The bed was no mere cot, but a sanctuary of down, so soft and yielding that I feared to rise lest I be accused of treason against comfort. The walls, of sober yet elegant hue, whispered calmness, and the fittings, though simple, were as thoughtfully placed as chessmen upon the board of a master. The bath, a small temple of cleanliness, poured forth streams of warmth like the blessed springs of Arcadia.
Come morn, the banquet, though no king’s feast, was a spread of delights most agreeable. Croissants of such golden flake that Apollo himself might trade his lyre, fruits whose freshness did sing of orchards kissed by dawn, and coffee—a potion so fortifying that it seemed brewed by Vulcan in some secret forge of vigor.
In sum, this Hotel Motel One is a paradox most divine: humble yet noble, simple yet refined, swift of service yet unhurried of manner. To any traveler seeking rest in Düsseldorf, I say: tarry not elsewhere, lest ye miss a lodging that maketh even the road-weary heart leap like a...
Read moreI have stayed at many Motel Ones and this one in particular 4 times. Normally I am very pleased with my stays but this one disappointed me on two issues. But first the good news - this hotel is excellent in preventing the spread of COVID-19. This hotel has gone over and above in their cleaning practices (including fogging the rooms between guests) and keeping the breakfast area and lounge as sanitary as possible. Kudos for this outstanding good work.||||My 2 concerns were a lack of an English news channel (during COVID I would like to have been able to follow the COVID news and how it was trending. The hotel provides 2 English channels (CNBC and Bloomberg) which is sadly only business news and are more or less the same news. It would have been nice to have DW (English), Euronews (English), BBC World or CNN International. I was searching for news of COVID in Germany because things were changing (such as outdoor mask requirements) but unable to find it. Also due to COVID, I spent much more time in my room than normal (to avoid crowds and "stay safe"), so an additional English channel would have been nice.||||Secondly, the breakfast was not up to Motel One standards (and I was there for 4 days). The bread roll and bread were quite old and hard. This has not been my experience in the past, so this was a big disappointment. At first I thought it might have been a "one of", but it was the same all 4 days. I hope Motel One responds to this concern because I use to enjoy their breakfast offerings, but this time they came up short. It was much nicer in the other hotels I stay at...
