China Restaurant Yung — Restaurant in Frankfurt

Service: the food is ordered with a tablet, which is in my opinion not very easy to use, for example, return to the main menu, and we had a bit of problem using it and the way the situation was handled is a bit hectic I would say. And this way of ordering reminded me of somehthing between restaurant and imbiss. Towards the end we would like to pay the bill, I tried it with the machine on the table but it did not work so we waited long, after calling for two or three times, for the owner to come to us. After I said that we waited long he replied: you could have used the machine to pay. It was my fault that as an "old" man for technology I can not use it correctly. I am sorry for that but I am glad that I don't need to use it again. As to the tips, if you read the one star reviews, you see the pattern. I have never experiecned an active request for tipps with this level of service. I will give tips when I have experienced good service. But obviously it is taken as as a given by the owner and he said directly to our face that he did not want to see us again after we have not gave enough tips in his opinion. And the owern claims that tip is common in Chinese culture. well, not that as I know. As far as I know in Canton and Hongkong it is common to charge 茶水费 namely tee money, but it in itself in controversial and the tee is in the service, which is not the case in this restaurant yung. So I don't know what part of China he is representing. Would be glad if he could let me know.

Food: I am growing up in Canton and have been to Hongkong, I am suprised that as a Dim-Sum house (or partly the reclaimed it is) they don't have Stir-Fried Rice Noodles with Beef 干炒牛河，a whole class of steamed vermicelli roll 肠粉 and other typical Dim Sums which you can find in a Dim Sum house. And I have different expectation of Kung Pao chicken, to be honest. unfortunately I forgeot to take a photo. The most dissapointing dish is the har gow namely the shrimp dumpling, which is my benchmark for a dim sum restaurant. The wrapper was not thin enough, it ws overcooked and sticked partly to the paper below, and the shrimp inside ist in my opinon not pur shrimp meat but mixed with wheat or something similar, therefore the flavor has great potential for improvement.

Ambience: like many other chinese restaurants the ambience almost fufills all the expectation of western about how a chinese restaurant looks like. It is old-fashioned and stereotypical. No further comments on that. I have wished the chinese restaurant to be modern and high-end, at least with the price of the food this...

The China Restaurant Yung is a hidden gem in Frankfurt. They offer authentic and high quality Cantonese cuisine. Since my parents are from Hong Kong I missed Cantonese food and was looking for an authentic restaurant. Because of that I found family Yung and preordered some typical dishes for my birthday dinner.

The food was phenomenal and tasted like the food in Hong Kong. The Canton Duck was juicy, crispy and seasoned perfectly. The Char Siu was also seasoned perfectly and the meat was lean (the way I like it). The Siu Yuk was super crispy and delicious. The Dim Sim tasted how it was supposed to taste. Especially the rice rolls with prawns (Cheung Fan - my special order and not on the menu) were the best I’ve had outside of Hong Kong!

The service was great, too! I preordered three things that were not on the menu: a soup (authentic Chinese soup), a vegetable (gai lan) and rice rolls (Cheung Fan). They made all the dishes I requested.

Thank you family Yung for the great birthday dinner! My friends and my brother enjoyed it, as well :). We’ll definitely come back!

Das China Restaurant Yung ist ein verstecktes Juwel mitten in Frankfurt! Dort wird absolut authentische und qualitativ hochwertige kantonesische Küche angeboten. Da meine Eltern aus Hong Kong kommen, habe ich die kantonesische Küche vermisst und war deshalb auf der Suche nach einem authentischen Restaurant. Dabei bin ich auf die Familie Yung gestoßen und habe sofort typische Gerichte für mein Geburtstagsessen vorbestellt.

Das Essen war phenomenal und hat so wie in Hong Kong geschmeckt! Die Kantonente war saftig, knusprig und perfekt gewürzt. Das Char Siu war auch perfekt gewürzt und das Fleisch mager (genauso wie ich es mag). Das Siu Yuk war super knusprig und lecker. Die Dim Sum haben alle so geschmeckt wie die zu schmecken haben. Vor allem die Reisrollen mit Garnelen (Cheung Fan - Sonderwunsch von mir und nicht auf der Karte) waren die besten, die ich jemals außerhalb von Hong Kong gegessen habe!

Der Service war auch toll! Ich habe mir eine Suppe (authentische chinesische Suppe), ein Gemüse (Gai Lan) und ein Dim Sum (Reisrollen) gewünscht, die nicht auf der Karte waren. Die Wünsche wurden mir bei der Vorbestellung des Essens erfüllt.

Vielen Dank nochmal an die Familie Yung für das gelungene Geburtstagsessen :)! Meinen Freunden und meinem Bruder hat es auch super geschmeckt. Wir kommen...

Unfortunately we had a very bad experience there. The food is just ok. But the service level was quite low and you guys should be aware that the waiter could be rude and will actively ask you for tips and if you don’t give them enough as they want. You may receive a wish: we don’t want to see you anymore 😂.

To the response from restaurant: good service we did not feel. But nice to hear your confidence and hubris. If your waiter didn’t get tipps, you should ask him and evaluate his service, as you said, tipps reflect the service level. But never request customers. if it is your own style to behave like this, we suggest you to put your words as a slogan on your window to propagandize your “no tipps no table”, so that everyone can see before they experience it.

To the review readers: Guys, please don't be fooled by the restaurant. They claim that they have 30 years experience, but either they do not have a clue about German law or they just want to fool us. In Germany, the service money (Bedienungsgeld in German) is already included in the menu prices which we must pay and it is subject to income tax. But on the other hand, the tip money (Trinkgeld in German) is a voluntary "gift" and should not be requested by restaurants. If you are also facing this, you can take all evidences to the Consumer protection agencies (Verbraucherzentrale). Take care, everyone!
