I came here thinking this was the best specialty coffee in Frankfurt. I ordered an espresso, but it arrived without proper crema and tasted thin. When I asked the staff if this was well made, they told me this is how they always do it. Honestly, that just means consistently badly made espresso. Very disappointing for a place that presents itself as a specialty coffee shop.
Response to the owner’s reply;
I appreciate that crema is no longer the sole marker of a great espresso — I completely understand the evolution of specialty coffee and have been fortunate to try competition-winning coffees in some of Europe’s top cafés. Visiting specialty shops is a passion of mine, not just a casual stop.
That said, the espresso I was served here was clearly sour and under-extracted. To illustrate my point, I am sharing a photo taken in your own shop by another guest — this is what a well-prepared modern espresso can look like. Mine was far thinner and lacked the clarity, sweetness, and balance expected from a properly dialed-in shot.
Unfortunately, the interaction did not stop at a disappointing drink. Your staff that day used the same dismissive tone that was reflected in the owner’s public reply. Instead of engaging constructively, both the service and the response mocked the feedback. This is not what specialty coffee culture should represent — specialty coffee thrives on education, dialogue, and respect for the guest’s experience.
I hope this feedback is taken seriously. The best cafés I have visited use guest input to improve consistency, not as an opportunity...
Read moreAn excellent coffee place even for the specialty coffee enthusiasts.
The espresso is not the traditional italian style (the bitter, dark roast, full of dense crema). It's the modern style. This time they were using a La Cabra from El Salvador, juicy, floral, perfect to my taste, but some people miss the crema and body.
The flat white with oat milk was delicious, but I won't rate since I'm not a milk beverage guy.
They also sell La Cabra freshly roasted. I could see some beans from 24/04, 9 days before my visit, and it is shipped from Denmark. Pretty nice!
For one espresso, one flat white, one filtered and a carrot cake, I spent 20 euros plus tip. Not cheap, but the coffee beans, equipment, and barista skills are top-notch. I totally recommend it!
By the way, this place was suggested by Anna, from Giovanna Kaffee in Cologne, 5th place in the German Barista Championship. Glad that I...
Read moreThis should really be a 3 in my book, but I brought rating to 4 to account for me being ingorant/out of date, and to account for the positives of this place, which are staggering. The issue is that I can't stand their beans in an espresso, because they are too acid. I understand that the new trends are far away from a proper "Italian" roast, but I can't pretend to like or understand these new trends. On the other hand, their beans make for a truly original Cappuccino - so if you get that, this could turn out to be a 5 star experience. The staff takes the coffee very seriously, and they explained the origin of the beans and their taste profile without me asking them - which was amazing! The ambiance of the shop is also wonderful - now we just need to get over the pandemic and enjoy social life like...
