The best skyline views of Frankfurt! Period.
Great addition to the cathedral tour is the climb to the tower and enjoy stunning views of Frankfurt. Climbing through the narrow twisting staircase (over 300 steps) was a bit challenging even for me. There was not much space to avoid other visitors - one must stop and wait for others to pass - therefore the walk up took me some time. At the platform, there was not much space either, it was hard to avoid/pass other visitors (especially the ones with backpacks) and it could be a bit claustrophobic for some. Seating at the stone ledges of the cathedrals tower was available.
The views are simply spectacular, amongst my favourites of Frankfurt! On the west side you can see the 200 meter tall concrete giants guarding the small, but pretty, old city center af the forefront. Southern part overlooks the artery of the city - Main river - and the European Central Bank dominates the eastern horizon. Apart from this, you can see residential parts of Frankfurt that are not really interesting.
It is easy to get here with U-bahn - afterall the station here is named after the cathedral. Ticket office is located behind the cathedral (no tickets sales inside the cathedral), towards the Weckmart - the side of the cathedral facing the river. Tickets can be purchased only with cash payments and costs 3 EUR, which is a bargain for what you see from up there!
Definitely a great place to enjoy the awesome views! Visited...
Read moreFun and cheap but challenging climb that leads to fantastic 360 views all around Frankfurt. This is the spiral staircase up one of the spires of the Frankfurt Cathedral. The staircase is narrow and you can barely fit two adults past eachother when climbing up/down. Don't go if you are claustrophobic, large, or out of shape, you will not enjoy it, and it will be uncomfortable. People of average fitness will be fine if you take your time. I would not do this on a busy day since there is only one staircase to go up and down on, so you can also not take anything larger than a small bag. 3...
Read moreFor just 3€ it’s absolutely worth it! The stairs are a bit narrow and it might be awkward to meet someone travelling in the opposite direction. The platform is a bit narrow as well, but I guess you can’t do much about either of those things 😅. The entrance is separate from the main church one and the museum, you can buy the ticket at a small kiosk behind (on the river side) and you don’t really notice the door to get in until you’re pointed to it. Final warning: in some points inside the ceiling is really low, be careful not to...
