I only have my receipt as proof that we were here. What I found so strange about the whole experience, is how we were pressured to meet the minimum on our table in a ridiculous manner. I was told pretty clearly that there was a 125 dollar minimum per person since we were a table of 9, no problem. The server really tried pushing their omakase with us but I was unimpressed by the selection so I literally had to insist that I wanted to order a la carte (it felt like it would’ve been easier for the restaurant to choose for us and coordinate our meal than us ordering a la carte, but I wanted to have more control over our experience, so I had to consistently decline). What I was flabbergasted by was how 40 minutes into our reservation the server came over to me to suggest a 200€ bottle of wine because we were only at 563 and we needed to each the minimum. I told him he didn’t have to worry about the minimum as we literally just started dining and were going to get more food and drinks. Even our German friends at the table commented on the servers pushiness.
It made me feel like they wanted us to reach our minimum as quickly as possible and get out. We dined for 3 hours and met our minimum in the end, but I wish they would’ve just went with the flow instead of having such a rude start. While I had a nice time with my family, it ruined by impression of the restaurant and...
Read moreWe visited for lunch on a Saturday. The place was perhaps half full. It’s a nice enough venue with plenty of seating options, both indoors and outdoors. Between the two of us we ordered the tori gyoza, dragon prawns, soft shell crab roll, black cod, beef tenderloin, grilled corn and garlic rice. The food was generally very good. In particular we enjoyed the dragon prawns (which were enormous!), the black cod, and the corn. The beef was perfectly cooked, but slightly dry. The garlic rice was good, but lacked garlic. Portion sizes were bigger than expected and we had quite a bit of food leftover, which we packed up to take away. We were too full to try dessert.
Service was friendly and reasonably efficient, but could have been a bit more attentive (e.g. in topping up drinks). It was sometimes difficult to get our servers attention. The bill for our lunch including tip came to €240, of which €60 was spent on drinks. We live in London and this pricing seemed reasonable for London standards, but not sure how it stacks up in Frankfurt. We have somewhat high standards for Japanese food, given the myriad of great options in London, but I’m happy to say Moriki did not disappoint. Some things could have improved, but it was a solid meal overall and I would consider a...
Read morePlanned an early dinner at Moriki with wife and kids - place is nice but that’s sadly we’re the experience ended for us. I could honestly say Pizza Hut has better service. We stood around for 15 minutes looking for someone to acknowledge we arrived and to serve us. After being seated, had to beg for someone’s attention to get a high chair (usually people notice the baby and offer us a high chair!). This followed by nearly an hour waiting for food to arrive (I know some things take time to cook but really you’d expect edamame, salad and even sushi to be ready pretty quick). We raised the issue once and got our salad, but by 20:00 kids were restless and wife agitated. Failing to find anyone to attend to us the Mrs walked up to complain and it seems was basically told by the manager to leave and not come back - obviously my wife was upset and I’d have expected manager of a top restaurant to understand this, not to be rude and tell her to go away... So anyway, we left as instructed! ... shame as we’d looked forward to it, very bad first dining experience in Frankfurt. I guess if you want to go here eat something before and don’t expect good service, under those circumstances you may have a...
